Captain's quarters - Terms 1-2

Not sure I understand the issue  ...

As per our own constitution, the designated Team Captain should be the only person to post on the UN thread ... Am I correct ???

And the UN Thread is defined as anything out of the Team M.I.A. thread ... Correct ???

anyone can post in the U.N. thread, but the team captain is the only person who can make decsions in the U.N. thread on behalf of the team (i.e. when we decide to amend the ruleset; have a new admin, decide world settings; etc.

That is not correct, otherwise the DP cannot post in the save thread, which is a must for the team.

OK ... and foreign missions instigated by the Foreign Minister too I suppose ...

However I am talking about our elected official being the only person who should be commenting on questions posed by other teams (and individuals) in the UN, which concern the running of or information about team MIA ...

@fe3333au: What a great segue...
I was just about to comment on something in the UN.
Check out the team vote thread http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=125264

Purpose: To prevent the use of outside game elements to break the spirit of the game by allowing someone to outright cheat.

I think the use of the spreadsheet does not violate the spirit or the letter of the law. Therefore spreadsheets should be allowed, but maybe each one should be approved by the UN before use.

I was actually going to comment on a similar thing ... however we must trust that teams act in a gentleman's fashion where fairness is expected ... I couldn't give a sh(i)t if we lose ... I just want a fun time strategizing against other player teams ... and interacting with team members here ...

Ways to cheat ... there are programmes which can alter saves or allow hidden information to be seen ... which apparently can be picked up by administrators ... Classical_hero could probably expand on this ...

My thoughts are that we must trust in the sportsmanship of the other teams ...

Since a game cannot be saved midgame the Repeat Action Until Best Result Method for poping of huts or doing battle is not so much a problem ... unless the entire game is replayed ...

However a Let's Explore in all 8 Directions and then 'Officially' Move is easily possible ... however again I expect our team NOT to do this ... and would vote expulsion for that member ... this came to me when I 'played' our first move ... (I moved worker onto hill, my natural reaction) ...
Hereafter I will only look at the savefile after it has already been sent ... and then only to get stats from cities, map, etc. ...

--------
EDIT
As to the question stated in UN ... we need a poll and vote so that our UN delegate expesses our wishes ...
I personally can't understand the Spreadsheet so I don't care ... or at the very least require more info as to it's benefits ... I guess it shows that some play the game by intuition and other with cold robot logic.

I'm intrigued by this 'cold robot logic' of which you speak.... I agree that we must hope that everyone is playing to have fun and learn, but I'm sure there are some out there who are a bit more competitive than me.

It never even occured to me to explore all eight directions before officially moving. I'm so naive. I agree we should not use those tactics. Expulsion may be a bit hard - we can debate that if it happens --Which it never should---

I have been thinking about the actual things that we learn through the advisor screens ...
F1 - Domestic
F2 - Trade
F3 - Military
F4 - Foreign
F5 - Cultural
F6 - Science

and then also ... which is still only surface information

F7 - Wonders of the World
F8 - Victory Status Screen, Histograph (Score, Power, Culture)
F9 - Palace
F10 - Space Ship
---

But what about this deeper game stats stuff -

F11 - Top 5 Cities and Demographics

and

Victory Point Tally, which is shown automatically upper right of the main game screen

---

I propose to set up a separate 'stickied' thread called Through the Looking Glass

It would be a place to discuss our opponents and keep a record of all information we have ...

This would have the first 5 post places reserved for regularly updated summary information ...

Post 1 - Intro and Record of VPs for all Civs

Post 2 - Speciafic Info on Team 1
Post 3 - Speciafic Info on Team 2
Post 4 - Speciafic Info on Team 3

Post 5 - Reserved for something else we may feel is inportant to keep on the easy to find, updated front page.

Posts 2-4
>will have screen pics of any cities (ie City Screens we get from the setting up of embassies and/or espionage)
>Wonders Built
>also F11 info

This could be a sort of espionage and rival think tank ... as the following thread pages would be used to analyse and discuss our rivals

What do yo guyz think ...

Better than sliced bread.
It would also assist me (unable to load sav) in keeping abreast of the goings on.

I really find the format of a thinktank to be intriguing. With enough contact, we could glean quite a bit of knowledge from this project. I'd like to see this as a citizens initiative - a private enterprise, so to speak. No need to strap a busy minister worried about elections with this stuff.

Really what you have proposed to do in that thread is the job of the Foreign Minister. Each team will then have a thread that is started by the appointed ambassador to that team.

Oh well I've already done it :p ... I'll kill it if you want ...

However IMHO the Through the Looking Glass thread is easy to find (even easier when stickied :mischief: ) and an excellent way to summarize all info in the same location ... (in fact the first 5 posts of the thread) ...

I suggest to the team that this is a valuable resource for the team, which will enable easy and informed debate regarding our rivals ...

Specific stratergies can be voted on and discussed in separate threads opened by Foreign Minister ... or even have discussions lead by the appropriate citizens on the Looking Glass thread

and i thought that Diplomats were the guyz that PMed the other civs and with their skill with the Mighty Pen and their powers of wordsmanship ... Rival teams will be snared to agree to our terms or do our bidding ...

But I will stand by Teams decision ... :goodjob:

Captun Sir :salute: ... Would it be possible to sticky the Through the Looking Glass thread ... I have updated the VP info for turn 3 (current)

CH seems to think that it's not your job to pst the thread in the first place. I'll wait for more information from him.

I, for one, don't really care whose job it is, just as long as the thread doesn't die. Rebuild it somewhere else, restructure it, whatever. But Through the Looking Glass will be a very powerful lens through which to examine the motives and play strategy of our allies and enemies.

I respectfully disagree ... and can find nothing in the Constitution and job descriptions to support his view ... I don't think our Constitution states that only Ministers or other elected positions are the only citizens that are permitted to start and maintain threads ...

What I am compiling is a Resource ... which will be a constantly updated record of all that we know about the World ...

What I am doing doesn't fall under any one Ministerial influence ... infact it will be used as a reference document in order that our duly elected Ministers can make informed decisions ...

Finally in lieu of the recent debate in the UN regarding what programmes and data analysis tools are allowed ... to me is a strong indication that the other teams are extremely competitive and scarily capable ...

The Through the Looking Glass thread is a place that we can easily access in one place all the raw data ... and also a place where we can all informally muse about our opponents ...

Finally from the Constitution;
Article III-1. The President shall be the designated player; meaning he plays the save.

Since this is not an issue about playing a turn, then his voice surely should not carry greater weight than any other Founder citizen and certainly should not imply that he has a right of veto ...

Only offical threads from ministers or the team captain can be stickied. Really the only things that we should sticky are things that tell us about this team so it is easy to find. Also things that each minister puts up does not need to be stickied because they are often well visited. Plus we do not want to have a whole page of stickied items.

okay, if this is what you want, and you're going to maintain it, I don't have a problem with it (you convinced me :D); but you don't need my permission to sticky it. I'm more concerned about how this treads into foreign minister/diplomat territory; considering you're mainly talking about the other teams. Just have everything there be facts, and no opinion or policy, and there shouldn't be a conflict.
