Cardith Lorda Role Playing Challenge

Yes, you can move the portable wonders into settlements, and I am reasonably certain you can build temples by sacraficing priests as well. But since your leader trait gives you culture in each city by default they will grow slowly on their own.

If you haven't filled all your city allotment, it should allow any unit stationed on a settlement to cast a spell which makes it into a normal city. There is no way to downgrade a city into a settlement though.

I'll have to make a couple of corrections to my AAR to avoid confusing people:

1) It turns out that I wrongly assumed that I cannot have Inquisitors with Cardith Lorda because of my civics. In ffh2, civics don't limit Inquisitors, but they have to be upgraded from level 6 Disciples. The reason I couldn't go for religious victory is because I didn't use Disciples in war.

2) I found out that Fellowship of Leaves doesn't convert evil civs to neutral. Sheaim and Calabim in my game must have been converted by Runes of Kilmorph before adopting the Fellowship.

Ok, so I finally finished my game. After reading Nameless One's report, I find it to be quite amazing how the same start can produce very different endings. I'll probably post my game later tonight, but I have a few questions first:

  1. When was the thaw supposed to come? It never occurred in my game, so my capital was still surrounded by tundra :crazyeye:
  2. Stupid question...but what does "AAR" stand for? I imagine it's "something something report?" :D

Tht's odd, the thaw is supposed to happen in the first 100 turns of the game. Must be a bug.

AAR- After Action Report

So that's what that means :D . And I guess my game was bugged, not sure why though. No doubt the game would have gone a little easier if the snow had melted, but in the end, it wasn't too big of a deal.

So here is my AAR, done in the same fashion as Nameless'. My game was on the monarch save.

  • Do not go to war with any good empire, and if at war with one, only fight defensively.
This was also easy in my game as well, since the Luchuirp was the only other good empire.

  • 50% of your army consist of Centaur units
Earlier in the game, the majority of my army consisted of centaurs and then later centaur archers. Near the end though, I recruited more soldiers of kilmorph and mercenaries, so it dipped down close to the 45% mark.

Here's my endgame military advisor screenshot
Spoiler :

  • Have a maximum amount of cities, and no overlap in their BFC
It seems great minds think alike, because my three are the same as nameless' three cities  . To be honest, I don't think there were much better places to settle. I was originally going to rush Os-Gabella and take her capital to be my third, but she got herself killed by barbarians very quickly, and Acheron the Red Dragon moved into her old palace before I could reclaim it. :crazyeye:

Spoiler :

A screenshot of my three cities, still locked deep within the ice age:
Spoiler :

  • Destroy or Vassalize all evil civs, if vassalized, you need to convert them to neutral or good
Unfortunately, I couldn't get this done. Os-Gabella was wiped out by barbarians, so that wasn't an issue. Alexis, almost killed by barbarians herself, was more of a problem. After the "dwarf wars," I led my new dwarven alliance (Garrim as my teammate, and Kandros as my vassal) against her.

At this point of the game, myself, Garrim and Kandros were RoK, while Alexis and Thessa were FoL. I had brought her down to about three cities before she vassalized herself to Thessa to bring her into the war. I could never get either one to open borders or accept a different religion, so Alexis remained evil.

The endgame diplomacy advisor screenshot - with each side divided by religion:

Spoiler :

  • Have the Liberty, God King, and Caste civics run ASAP
  • No trading, open borders, etc. with evil civs.
I suppose my research rate was rather poor, or that I just didn't follow rules very carefully, because I never teched for Liberty or Caste System civics.

  • Found a non- evil religion (Not CoE, AV, or OO)
I ended up founding the Empyrean religion as well, hoping to spread it to Garrim to seal an alliance. However, he ended up converting to RoK before I could get the chance, so I ended up converting to RoK as well.

  • Find and Control the Centaur Citadel
  • Find and Control the Lamia Village
Done. I captured the Lamia Village late in the game, and ended up giving it to Garrim so he could use it. Garrim also captured the Centaur Citadel on his own later on.

Spoiler :

  • Win a Domination or Religious Victory
I won with a domination victory, but only because I made a permanent alliance with Garrim.

Spoiler :

The Kuriotate world spell helped out a lot near the end to gain the last couple of percent needed to win.

  • Enter a Permanent Alliance with a Good Civlization
As mentioned earlier, I formed a permanent alliance with Garrim. Our good relations led us to form a defensive pact early on - and about 5 turns before Kandros decided to declare war on me. Our mutual war effort and later our same religion helped to seal the deal for a permanent alliance.

  • Found the Cult of the Dragon
I got a random event that founded it was founded in Kwythellar. I didn't have any other effect for the rest of the game it seems.

Spoiler :

  • Create Eubrates
I never finished researching Divine Essence. I was five turns away from finishing it when the game was over, so no dragon for me :( .

Overall, I really enjoyed this game - my first experience with Cardith Lorda was a positive one. At first, the limited number of cities was off-putting, but I actually found it easier to keep track of less cities.

And now for something completely different - my good friend Barbatos here held the line dividing my RoK dwarven alliance and Thessa/Alexis FoL...

Spoiler :

Until he got thwacked by a giant walking tree

I'm assuming this save is pre-patch "i" or "j" or whichever one it is that breaks savegames? At least, it crashes instead of loading for me. Shame, I was looking forward to this.

I think that SDK changes in general break saves, as does the removal (but usually not the addition, iirc) of units/promotions/buildings/etc from xml files. Some python changes also seem to break saves, but minor ones are usually fine.

i and/or j have SDK changes, so it breaks saves

RAWR double post.

I never really learned the inner workings of what breaks savegames, I just accepted them as Force Majeure, acts of Kael. So that was enlightening.

But my real question was whether this scenario was made before the latest savegame breaker;)

It would be really cool if all scenarios and maps had the version and patch it works with located in some prominent position.

Was thinking of trying this, but doubt it works with the latest patch. Looking forward to when FFH stabilises.

Yeah, breaking savegames is REALLY easy. I think any re-definition in the art files does it as well. I broke my savegame each time I added a new summon while I was building the Modular FfH, so I know that it is possible to break saves with just XML.

You can often get away with adding those things (perhaps if you make sure your changes are to the end of a file, so you don't change any of the integer defines for other buildings/units/promotions/etc), but removing them quite a problem.
