'Cause I'm the Taxman

NE in Athens is definitely good as well, though there's a strong-ish potential for production there which isn't present in Vienne (my first choice).

That's what I thought, too - Athens has some nice tiles to work for commerce and hammers.

What can we get for peace? Is there a way to determine that? I'd prefer Lit.

@TheBossMan, ?

Stalin says 210 gold to leave him alone. Literature is around 260.

You want peace?! Sissies! NO -- NO PEACE!! CRRRUUUUUUUUUSSSH!!!

You're scared of cuirassiers? :smoke:
They're horrible at defending cities and we have ivory. Keep making units (some elephants next please).

That said I see that we've left some units wide open, so we should sign a cease fire and then move back in immediately/within 1-2 turns.

And yes, Athens is best for NE (food to run GPP and the shrine for a good WS shrine+specialist city later). For me it's a no-brainer.

 I guess we're not taking peace then... I am, in fact, a total sissy.

If we're staying on the war path, I'd build elephants and siege exclusively in the mainland cities. We could use much more of both, but in light of the cuirassier stack, at least a round of elephants first.

How would you fight this war from here? Go right back in towards St. Pete after a ceasefire? I fail to see how we can take that city anytime soon, and there's no defensive terrain anywhere. If he's building some siege, we could really get hammered, no?

^ No you're not a sissy, just that Rusten is a raving lunatic with viking blood boiling in his veins

After the cease fire he's pretty sure to come knocking with that stack of Cuirs, maybe best would be to conjure up a metric ton of WEs (figuratively, I doubt a ton of actual elephants is very much :D ) along with some barrage Cats and repeat where the odds failed me last turnset? I still wouldn't think twice about a peace treaty here myself but I have faith in our captain :)

back and slowly getting back into civ.

count me among the wimps--my inclination would be to take peace.
I'm not wild about the cease fire/redeclare option--we'll take a -1 from all but SB for that. We can cover with a WE or 2 the reinforcement stack if we stay at war. I confess I've got a bit of a tough time seeing how we'll capture the city tho.
we can run theo as well I think w/o losing sury as friendly

Doesn't really matter. Our relationship with KK/Pericles is irrelevant, Joao is our enemy anyway and we have enough + with Sury to avoid problems.

Whip it, whip it good!

I prefer cease fire -> redeclare and wait for Stalin's cuirassiers over a peace treaty. I'm willing to hold on entering his territory until we have more troops.

PS. Don't play just yet -- it's fine to hold up the game a bit considering the time of the year.

Alright, time to get it moving again. First week of January is over so original rules apply.

We need to reach a decision on how to handle the war. I'll have another look later today and offer some thoughts.

Hi team :hatsoff:,

sorry for going MIA this week, but I am going through problems to find a web connection in my new apartment (and I am trying to not log in from work, that's my final year of phd and something needs to be done )... I currently hope I will have one in the next two weeks but you never know...

In the meantime, I guess I need to be on autoskip as I can't reliably open saves and comment (not talking of playing even).

I'll keep you posted :)

Decision? How many votes are required to defeat the captain? :D

I obviously trust you, but I really favour peace treaty here. We can use min. 10t to build up our army right now. And, he'd stop spamming units, no?

Why would peace treaty be better? Please, convince me! Better to build up while Stalin sends units towards us. Personally I don't mind him building units, a major part of this war was to slow him down -- he's the big techer -- and that is being achieved as we speak.

If we don't want the hit in relations we can perhaps move the stack back, but that would add risk.

^ My main concern is those Cuirassiers still, we can't very favorably touch his C2 Cuirassiers with anything even on defense (no iron for pikes either) and he already has a dozen to throw in our face. So his first attackers would have over 50% odds pretty much whatever we do, which usually isn't a good thing. We could always bum rush but we'd want at least 5+ Cats for that so it wouldn't be that hammer effective either. He isn't such a tech monster any more in comparison to be honest, I think the war served its original purpose.

Whether to pursue getting St. Pete's monster shrine and Moscows wonders is another issue. He'll have crazy (albeit narrow) culture on us with Sistine. This could be done with a concentrated committment. The question is whether it's easier to do that now or later. To be honest I'm not sure with this variant as stuff like Rifling date is a crapshoot. Maybe it's indeed the lowest risk to make the big committment now with Jumbos against Kurasääris but I can't really give an informed opinion about that.

So at this point either way is fine by me, really. If we continue the war we do need to concentrate on the war almost 100% (sorry, I didn't do that at all towards the end of my turnset), among other things delaying GPs and all but the most essential Banks among other things. I'm usually very cautious about that sort of thing and would never do that solo but with this team we could do it.

The relations is a non-issue as pointed out, we only care about SB and Sury here and our Russian wars have no real effect on either.

This is what I'm worried about, too. Honestly, I have tough time evaluating the situation here. In a solo game, I never would've even thought of starting this war when we did, so I should probably shut up... It seems to me, if he throws in some siege, we could get absolutely hammered by the first wave. A couple of our elephants lose at low-even odds early, and we're toast, since our defence isn't very deep at all.

If we continue with war, I would commit to it completely, ofc. It would be great to get banks up in at least Bibracte and Athens, but I might even put that on hold for the moment and just crank out WE's.

I'm not really sure what the alternative is, though. Maybe peace doesn't make much sense if we're re-declaring in 10t anyway. It does up initial battle odds a bit.

I'm not worried about defending vs. cuirassiers. With his current army he won't do any damage and we will buy gunpowder shortly for muskets.

I'll look at the save later and try to find out how many poorly protected units it's reasonable to expect him to send towards us while we build up. If the number is low I won't oppose signing peace if we get gold for it (speeds up gunpowder).

^ True, with Gunpowder we can build G2CG1 Muskets in Tolosa for massive defense and the Cuirs are much less a problem then. Still, that is some ways off and maybe a 10t respite is in order.

I see no discussion yet about the point me and ungy brought up; as far as I can see switching to Theo does not drop Sury to Pleased at least before the redeclaration; I think we should adopt that for now while we're building units. If we want to be extra-safe we can wait until we buy Gunpowder and then switch.
