Caveman 2 Cosmos

I did not see any ini settings where my cache folder was. There was 1 other folder there called "profiles". Nothing else.
Huh looks like you weren't in BTS folder then.
Both ini and cache are in this folder.

Would't they need to research tribalism to get to sedentary lifestyle though. In my little test game one of them got there and still only had one city.
They would research it.

Are you playing with Start As Minors by chance?

I think there is an option somewhere that is causing this for some folks and we need to isolate which option it is. I'm not seeing them having ANY trouble with spreading on my test game at all. In fact, I was under the impression that they have a hard time spreading via naval transport but I have one proving me very wrong right now, dotting cities all up and down my continent's coastline - he's the fastest spreading civ in the game. I mean, they aren't spreading recklessly and I'm sure economics and balancing other training and construction needs keep them from going at MAXIMUM spread speed but certainly no problems.

So if something is freezing up the AI from all expansion, it really has to be some option somewhere. Or an old version downloaded.
I do not play with start as minors. I guess it could be on by default though, because i did not change anything in my test game after installing the game again and deleting the cache. I have plenty of older versions on my PC but they are NOT in my BTS mod folder.

Hmm just throwing up something, may not be relevant.. Maybe it has something to do with playing on low difficulty level? At high diff level, the AI gets lots of production bonuses. However there are a limited number of buildings that can be built. After those buildings are built, all hammers can be put into something else. On lower difficulty levels, the AI may still be constructing buildings, which may mean there are no hammers available for other endeavors. It's a matter of the priority list and how fast the AI can go through it given its hammer production.

It's only one guessed at option that could be causing trouble. We might have to see a full list of your game settings and do all we can to isolate which ones are likely problems.

Not at all unlikely. If you're playing on lower diffs they'll definitely take a lot longer to be ready to get out there.

Yeah, AIs have better production to research ratio on higher handicaps.

No cache folder there at all on my PC. I do not see any ini stuff there either.
The cache may not be there but the .ini file is something like CivIV_config or something like that.

I play noble difficulty. That still does not explain why I saw the ottomans build a tribe, delete it and then build another one.

This makes me begin to wonder if it is ver38.5 on the download page. It could very well be 38.1.
You need to download from the offsite download and make sure you're selecting the v38.5 download on ModDB (others are available.)

That's standard behavior when they realize they can't afford what they have. So you're right, it's probably not the difficulty setting.

Yeah, AIs have better production to research ratio on higher handicaps.

This means that optimally, you'd have to program and fine tune a separate AI for each difficulty level. Which is a lot of extra work. Isn't it better to keep the production to research ratio the same for the AI for all difficulty levels, and dump the variation in difficulty on the player instead? That way you'd only have to program the AI once and it should work the same for all difficulty levels. That makes fine tuning the AI a lot easier.
