As most of you probably know the stupid Microsoft surface tablet with windows rt is out just to steal some people's money until the proper Microsoft surface tablet running windows 8 pro is released in January 2013.

The new tablet will be able to run everything windows xp-windows 8 can run and guess what.... Civilization 4 has been tested and runs really well on it so imagine being able to play caveman2cosmos on the move! On the bus, waiting for a taxi or even having a nice lie down in bed with the Microsoft surface tablet resting on your tummy (actually how I post a lot of my forum posts as I wake up in the morning using my ipad).

To play caveman2cosmos you could either pull out the keyboard and use it like a laptop or flip the keyboard away to keep it a true tablet experience. Simply touch a unit then drag it to where you want to go to move it. Want to build something? No problem just double tap your city and you have some nice big square buttons to press with your finger so you can choose what building you want. What to move the map around? Easy! Just put your finger on the mini map and drag it to the place you want to be viewing.

Caveman2Cosmos is going to run brilliantly on the Microsoft surface with windows 8 pro so if you want to buy a tablet and don't know which to use... Buy Microsoft surface with windows 8 pro early next year. It has the following specs:

OS: Runs current Windows 7 desktop applications and integrates with your existing enterprise management infrastructure. Use the programs and the apps available in the Windows Store.
Exterior: 10.81 x 6.81 x 13.46mm, 2lbs, VaporMg casing, Dark Titanium colour, Volume and Power buttons
Storage: 64GB or 128GB
Display: 10.6" ClearType Full HD Display, 1920x1080 pixels, 16:9 (widescreen), 10-point multi-touch
Pen Input: Pen input and pen (included with purchase)
CPU: 3rd Gen Intel Core i5 Processor with Intel HD Graphics 4000, 4GB RAM—Dual Channel Memory
Wireless: Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n)
Bluetooth: 4.0 Low Energy technology
Battery: 42 W-h
Cameras and A/V: Two 720p HD LifeCams, front- and rear-facing with TruColor Microphone and Stereo speakers
Ports: Full-size USB 3.0, microSDXC card slot, Headset jack, Mini DisplayPort , Cover port
Sensors: Ambient light sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass
Power Supply: 48W power supply (including 5W USB for accessory charging)
Warranty: 2-year hardware warranty.

Just so you know... I'm not being paid to advertise this or anything. I'm just really excited about this product and will use it to replace my ipad 2 next year.

Is anyone else excited about a portable, 1080p, touch screen caveman2cosmos game?

Check it out below but don't look at the stupid currently released "surface with windows rt" one. That can't run any normal windows applications and runs choppy due to poor specs. All that stupid thing can run is windows App Store apps making it almost totally unless. Adobe Flash doesn't even run properly on it so wait for the full Microsoft surface with windows 8 pro because that has decent specs and can run anything a desktop computer can run including flash and caveman2cosmos.

Surface runs Windows RT. It can only run Metro apps, not traditional desktop apps (basically RT uses an ARM processor architecture and can only run stuff compiled for it, or stuff that runs on the .NET runtime, neither of which covers Civ). Most of the major Microsoft apps (aka Office) have RT versions, but don't be fooled into thinking this will run legacy Windows apps generically.

Edit - nvm - that's basically what you said ;)

Yes the current stupid surface with RT does that... That's why I said wait for next year when they release the proper tablet running the full version of windows 8!

Check this out so you can see the difference between tablets: http://www.microsoft.com/Surface/en-AU/surface-with-windows-8-pro/help-me-choose

Here's a quote for you:

Bad current tablet: Windows RT is an exciting new version of Microsoft Windows that is built to run on ARM-based tablets and PCs. Works exclusively with apps available in the Windows Store.

Good jan 2013 tablet: Runs current Windows 7 desktop applications and integrates with your existing enterprise management infrastructure. Use the programs and the apps available in the Windows Store.

Also, Eric Neustadter of Xbox Live Operations claims that Surface with windows 8 pro can run PC games thanks to the complete Windows 8 OS, and that Surface will be the "greatest Civilization-playing device known to mankind".

I'm still going to disagree that it will be a 'great' civ platform though. The form factor means low energy use is key, and that means low power CPUs. Also Civ is well known fro holding a CPU core at 100%, so battery life is likely to be horrible, even given that.

Reguardless I'm getting that tablet next year and ill post a video on youtube showing the tablet running caveman2cosmos so you can all see how well it runs. I'll post a review of caveman2cosmos on surface as well as info on the battery life.

I could imagine people using a Win8 x86 tablet how they use laptops today, ie plugged in most of the time and in one location. The benefit would be the multi-touch screen and running legacy (and current) desktop apps, which I think will have considerable market appeal.

I'm perfectly happy keeping my phones and computers at home. Out and about they're just distractions to what you're trying to get accomplished imo. I only recently activated an old cell phone due to a family vacation requiring they be able to contact me at work but generally I don't even carry it with me or bother to keep it charged. I feel the same way about tablets and laptops - ugh. But then I never travel really either so if I did I'd probably like to have something like that for the trip. Or I could just try to enjoy having a break from having my face in a screen all the time. (so long as the trip isn't toooo long ;) )

Well I'm probably going on a massive Cruise in a year so no computer/ Internet for 3 months. I'll install caveman to cosmos on the tablet and take it with me ;)

Also... I don't get to really use my computer often. Sadly my sister is always on it or its nighttime and she's going to bed so I can't have my bright computer on. A tablet is good because I can be in any room of the house and use it and by lying down rather than sitting uncomfortably In front of a computer.

Anyway it may not be worth much to others but for me... It's really worth it ;)

Make sure you have some proper loading equipment along that works on whatever ship you are.
Some years ago a friend forgot to take along low voltage loading equipment for his laptop along on a sailing ship cruise in the Caribbean Sea so he had to go to bars all the time to reload it (well, I guess going to bars all the time is a good excuse for whatever).
