Caveman2Cosmos

I'm not sure how hard it would be to provide these features, but I think several of the developers have pointed out that too much automation removes strategy from the game. The goal of minimizing micromanagement is at odds with the goal of maximizing the skill/strategy needed to play well.

Perhaps this case is a bit different; last time, someone asked for something like a governor that makes sure crime isn't high, health is fine, etcetera... at least this option would require you to choose which cities to specialize in which way, and you'd have to check up on cities for properties.

Its just that in late game theres 50/50 chance you are in war and you have like 50-100 cities.
You make so intence moves in battlefield and its end of turn.

Now it takes TENS of minutes to choose production for your 50-100 cities. i really takes edge off intence battlefield momentum.

This is usually a point where i just turn on production automation just to get rid of choices. That usually leads lack of backups in battlefield.

There is a key (I think it's either ctrl, shift, or alt; I have it mapped to a controller, so I don't remember) that you can hold before queuing a unit to produce them endlessly. It'll show up with an asterix next to it in the build queue. That would help with the battlefield problem.

Ok, so started a new game the the current rev as Lincoln, and I got to say WOW! Speed on turns is definitely noticeable ( I also updated my PC a smidge as well), and it looks like you Fine Gents have tweaked the AI a bit as well, because I'm currently in a 3 pronged war for my island ( It's MY Island) in the AE. So kudo's.
I did have a couple WTH moments with the new city UI, and a few other minor things, but reading your new Pedia ( Lol, or should I call it a Lexicon?) resolved all of those.
Just wanted to pop in and say thx guys. The Mod/Dev team for this is just phenomenal, and I truly appreciate all your hard work and dedication. Thank You.

got a new pc, I forgot how to install this? Place the Caveman2Cosmos folder from the zip file into the ...\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Mods folder then run the C2C.bat file? Or is this wrong?

Installed it to C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Mods\Caveman2Cosmos but when I run the C2C.bat it says it is installed the wrong location and asks that I install it to "Mods\Caveman2Cosmos under your Beyond the Sword install directory." which is what I did :( what do I do now?

Make sure there isn't an extra Caveman2Cosmos folder added here which for some reason steam often seems to do. So it should be Mods>Caveman2Cosmos>Assets, not Mods>Caveman2Cosmos>Caveman2Cosmos>Assets.

Is that the problem?

Maybe something here can help:

There's a list of possible issues with resolutions here:

There is a Beyond the Sword folder in the Sid Meier's Civ IV Beyond the Sword folder, and another Mods folder in it. The mod goes in there. To be perfectly clear:
C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Caveman2Cosmos

I see, so now I moved it so the path is C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Caveman2Cosmos

When running the C2C.bat file I unfortunately now get a Steam Error: "Application load error 5: 0000065434"

I tried running the Civ4BeyondSword.exe directly, not through Steam and that gives the exactl same error. I looked in the C2C.bat file and can see that it is trying to run the game directly, and not through Steam. So does this mean that C2C is simply not compatible with the Steam version because C2C cannot run the game through Steam?

I should mention that running the game normally through Steam without C2C works fine.

Ok I found a solution. I start BTS through Steam and then use the "Load a Mod" option from the Advanced menu ingame, then load C2C from there. It's a more time consuming workaround since you have to first load the game, then load the mod, but I can live with it. Just wish I could use the bat file tbh.

I have Steam with Win7. This bat file works for me
Code:
cd ..\..
start "" "Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod=\Caveman2Cosmos"

I have Win10, maybe that is something related to that. But it is definitely is due to the fact that I cannot run the game without running it through Steam (so the issue doesnt sound C2C related I think, more like some problem with the game and Steam that doesnt allow the exe be run directly). Thanks for your help btw :)

Btw I have another question. I would like to make some fun changes with the world builder, like for example give myself 1 city in the middle of the ocean surrouned by mountains with tons of great people and ressources in it and then also give for example the Aztecs even more great people and resources and then my job will be to save the world from them. I choose Aztects because I know that they natively in the game at least have some kind of internal AI that makes them super aggressive and will defiantly keep expanding. Some of the other leaders/civs are super passive no matter how strong they are/become. can shed some light on which leaders/civ has such behaviour in C2C? Is the same as vanilla game?

It's been a very long time since anyone actually focused on reviewing leader AI factors. It's something that does eventually need to be audited more thoroughly. I'm not sure anyone currently on the team has all that much of the requested insight you're seeking though.

I learned from trial and error over time playing, but since my games tend to be very very long, it does take time to notice which leaders are behaving in certain ways. Huyana Capac for example always seems to be almost completely unable to expand or conquer no matter how many great people or ressources or super buildings I fill him with. Montezuma on the other hand I can always count on to want to effectively try and conquer the world.

Oh no :( now that error also happens when I try to load the mod. Weird, because it worked the first time I ran the game through steam and selected Load A Mod from the ingame menu. But now when I do that and choose C2C, as soon as the game tries to restart it gives me that exact error once more.

---------

NOTE: I want to warn anyone about using the below mentioned method as I found out that if steam has been updated, and the steam.exe in the civ folder is still the old one, then when launch the C2C batch file steam will fill the civ folder with a tons of steam files!

I made my own solution for this, created a batch file that compares, byte for byte, the steam.exe file in the civ folder with the steam.exe in the Steam installation folder. If there's any difference C2C and Civ wont be started, this should prevent the above problem from happening. If anyone is interested please let me know with a reply and I am willing to upload the batch file I made for this purpose.

---------

EDIT: ok so I found a solution on the internet with a funny workaround, just posting this here to mention I solved it and if anyone pops by having this issue they can try this fix:

1. Delete appcache folder from Steam folder. (make a backup of it first just in case)
2. Change Steam.exe to start as admin.
3. Copy (not move) over the Steam.exe to the same folder where Civ4BeyondSword.exe is located.
4. Now the C2C.bat file successfully starts the game with the C2C loaded.

First of all, I would like to thank every single person involved into putting this mod together. This really is THE ULTIMATE version of CIV IV. If only actual game developing companies learned from you guys. You have done something amazing with this game.

I also have questions.

I run into MAF usually when I reach renaissance, or industrial. Is it even possible to play to the end on huge or gigantic maps? I know CIV IV only recognizes 3GB of RAM but is there any way of finishing the game?

Also have anyone encountered units changing the way they look? When I click on my axe man in prehistoric era he actually looks like he supposed to, but after I click on something else and he becomes inactive, he changes into different kind of unit. Mostly axe man from medieval. It happens to other kinds of units too. Is there something wrong with my mod config?
