CBP and (3UC) 3rd Unique Component compatibility mod

Troll huh? So a guy comes to contribute something to a post and offer his talents to the community and this is the pleasantries I receive.

I can understand you being angry about being called a troll (or actually I can't, this is the internet, you should really be used to being accused of anything and everything whenever you post something :D) but technically you did not contribute anything to this post, you merely hijacked to promote something similar. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to test your mod when/if you ever release it and I do appreciate your hard work, but what you're working on and what was discussed in this thread is not the same.



Also I'm still interested to know if this CPP 3UC/4UC project was abandoned or not :D
 
My apologies, I wasn't trying to hijack your thread if that's the way you took it. I think there's some overlap though, since my mod absorbs what is in the 3UC.

It wasn't my thread, and you don't need to apologize, I just wanted to point that out.
And sure some overlapping exists, but your changes seems a lot heavier than the previously envisioned project, not to mention since you seem to have thought this through and worked alone on it it wouldn't be a community project. Some people could still prefer the more modular option, as well as having more of a say in the process.

You point one of the problems this mod will provoke. By integrating copied code from CP and/or CBP it will surely make impossible the compatibility of any mod developped on or for CP/CBP.

It would have been a lot better to be based on CBP with some code modifying CBP features.

It is his mod, he can handle it however he wants.


However getting this project going again would be nice, some extra uniques that complements the gameplay balance that's already built by the CPP.
Well even if the author gave up, if we can get a list of every unique we want in the mod and exactly what they do we can probably convince/threaten/bribe someone with some knowhow of how modding works to fix it. I mean deciding numbers and so on must be a good portion of the work(no clue :D).
 
Well if anybody is interested I've been working on a mod secretly for about 6 months, that incorporates aspects of 3UC and 4UC, ethnic units (Corrected! and Tested!), a couple of JFD's civs and incorporated a number of features of some of his civs and cleaned up many errors in his LUA code. Each civ's unique ability is overhauled and each civ has much more culture diversity with up to 5 or 6 Unique Components. For example this is Ramesses II's trait: Receive a free Pharaoh when you discover The Wheel. +25% [ICON_PRODUCTION] Production towards Wonder construction with a garrisoned Pharaoh in your city. Gain [ICON_RESEARCH] Science for each unit killed that has not been researched.

I resent the statement that there are "many errors in [my] Lua code" and am none too pleased with having no forewarning on the matter.

I think the first order of business since I'm basically new to this forum is to let everyone get to know me first before I attempt to acquire anybody's permission of parts or pieces of their work. I'd like to gain a rapport with all of you if you guys are willing. I'm an engineer by trade (+16 years in industry) and have a lot of technical ability and would be willing to help out as well.

Just to clarify: the way my mod is structured now is that the CP is basically integrated into my mod along with the C4D, C2D, ML, and then those parts in the CBP that are required to make all those pieces work together. The 'guts' of my mod is like a CBP replacement, with Civs, traits, promotions, units, etc. Right now, the mod is structured as a standalone. But basically the mod is all hypothetical (vis. it has no real instantiation), and if and when, it is ever released, we can carve it out to suit the agenda of the CP or whatever the Community Patch Project / committee decides. I don't intend to do anything maverick here.

No offense taken, but taking a bunch of elements from the community patch project to make another mod is kinda outside the bounds of 'modmod.' Feels a bit like overlap. I don't care all that much (it's all 'public domain so far as I'm concerned) but it does feel like community fragmentation. Just keep that in mind. If you can make it synergize with the CBP, that'd be much, much better, to me at least.

The closer we get to a finished list, the bigger the chance is that someone actually cares enough to pick up the project :D I mean I have no clue how coding works, but coming up with all buildings/units/stats/things gotta be at least a tenth of the project.

You're basically famous in our circles, so people are probably speaking about you as if you can only exist parasocially. I'm certain no offense was intended.
 
Exciting! I was wondering about this the other day actually and have a couple ideas;

Denmark, Longship (of course) and I was thinking a unique harbour would be really mint as the Vikings were traders as much as warriors.

England, Redcoats!!!! Classic English unit that (I think) has never been done before and would work in with the frigate (if I have my tech tree right) And how about a Garrison, a castle replacement that acts like a courthouse and lowers unrest from conquering and away from home to represent there colonial history.

Zulu, a Kraal that adds a cattle resource if there is not one already and like the Shoshone encampment can be used as a fort.

Polynesia, the Hawaiian Koa warriors maybe as a replacement for longswords or a follow on from the Maori warrior.

Russia or Byzantium; Varangian Guard they came from Rus but gained infamy fighting for Byzantium so...

Aztec, they had an Eagle Warrior that were the elite so have them as a follow on to the Jaguar maybe.

Germany, Tueton Warrior as a replacement for swordsmen as they were contemporary (and fought against) the roman legion

I think though this could be a good way to add earlier UC to civs with late UC or vice versa as especially on epic and marathon there can be a long time between uniques. Can't wait to see if this will ever be picked up as it will add so much flavour and depth to this already stellar patch.
