CCM - An introduction to a great mod

Ok, so I finally got to play a few turns again and interesting things happen. I replaced the wonder splash with some place holder.

My capital just before getting the wonder

smi130.jpg

After netting this mini wonder and some growth, the capital now makes 84 spt for nice 1 turn cavalry or canadian infantry, a strong 7/7/1 unit.

I am still fighting Persia, having a ROP with Japan which they use nicely. While moving around, I encounter this message. Must be some hidden Japanese unit and a lawyer revelas, it's the Japanese samurai monk. How can it be that there is an invisible unit that I would need to declare war to defeat it????

smi131.jpg

Anyway, there must be some sort of bug or maybe the Japanese are plain evil when they declare war on me the turn after.

smi132.jpg

Well, it will take me a few turns to take out Persia completely, but Japan will feel my wrath for sure sooner or later. I just got steel and can now research at 4 turns again, guess the population will replenish faster than thought. Of course, steel also let's me churn out workers to RR my empire which is badly needed.

Strange indeed. I am sure I killed invisible units with no problems, but it may have only been using my own invisible units. It sounds like the sub issue.

I like the look of the mod.

It is great that the story is continued.

What you encountered was a buddhist warrior monk, autoproduced by the Monastery of Martial Arts. The warrior monk is an invisible land unit but no HN unit. It is a special unit for civs with buddhistic religion under theocratic government (as it is the crusader for civs with christian religion or the answar warrior for islamic civs).

Ah, good to see more of this demo game/preview.

Before gathering my forces to attack Japan in proper style, there is still the remainder of Persia to take care of. They had no chance against my cavalry with their defense 5 units.

smi133.jpg

I take a few turns to RR and get some forces to attack Japan in full strength. It is better to atack with many units in CCM as there are no armies and I want to make sure I take cities immediately rather than just wounding defenders. I got steel in the meantime and am producing workers now to get my infrastructure up.

Finally, in 1760AD, I got enough units to attack the first city.

smi134.jpg

With it, I get a free world religion and +1 happiness in all my cities :D
And my rampage goes on into the Japanese core.

smi135.jpg

At the same time while taking out Japan, I have researched scientific methods to build the Arm's Race wonder, the ToE equivalent of CCM.
What I didn't know is the fact that I finally get my Golden Age with it. So, there we go, a GA and 2 free techs to boot

smi136.jpg

This will ensure that I will be able to take over my continent very soon. I can start thinking of my strategy after the take over already.

You can also see that I am now back to 4 turn research, communism turns out to be quite a good option, I got several cities now making more than 100spt (of course this is during GA)
smi137.jpg

And yet another city gets a production boost. There are plenty of them, but the modern boosts also bring unhappiness with them.
smi138.jpg

All in all, there are lots of boosts such as railyard, light industry, heavy industry, steam engine etc. I will try and get several cities above 100spt for a heavy unit output.

As for tech trading, I have completely stopped this. The AI is too far behind and I don't really need all the extra cash.

The campaign against Japan gains speed very fast with cavalry and Japan being beaten. I manage to take the last Japanese city in 1778AD.

smi139.jpg

Time to turn my attention to Maya (the only other Civ left on my continent is Arabia). I declare war and move into their territory quickly.

smi140.jpg

In between I get another production booster
smi141.jpg

In my war against Maya, mounties are actually very useful as there is a lot of hilly terrain and the abaility to cross the hills faster is very nice :D
Below you see an image of my armies moving forward at two fronts
smi142.jpg

I quickly take all their cities and then run into a problem when I take the last city.
smi143.jpg

The last city is not their demise and they must have a settler around somewhere. The game crashes on the IT. I try again by making peace and gifting them money, but the result is the same. Crash...

So, I am forced to reload the game and not take this city until I manage to hunt down that last settler.

As for research, I went to Atomic theory as this gives us another wonder (familiar face, eh) and the ability to build settlers (to fill the gaps that are still available on our continent). After this, I will research the naval techs to mount our first intercontinental invasions.

smi144.jpg

As for units, I am currently producing a mix of early tanks (move 2 units) and the very mobile hotchkiss (?) which has movement 3, which is very handy. I also get my first autoproduced flamethrower, quite a powerful attack unit.

smi145.jpg

Progress against Arabia is very fast with workers to rail to the front, mounties and hotchkisses to advance.
I get two nice cities and own now 3 world religions each giving +1 happiness in my cities and the ability to build their respective temples (modelled after Civ 4)

smi146.jpg

smi147.jpg

In a few turns, Arabia is reduced to a mere city, which I will take next turn.

I also manage to hunt down the settler carrying transport of Maya and take them out. . I t would be nice if the game crashing bug could be identified to solve this issue of being able to raze the last city before hunting down the remaining settler.

smi148.jpg

So, the whole continent will be mine next turn. I have laid out my path of conquest in the world view below. I will move east by Island hopping before heading for the other continent. I know that small Islands will contain huge numbers of enemy units, but with my superior units, should be able to take them out.

smi149.jpg

It will be harsher now, with no army to cover the landing force. Maybe they will be awed by the forces anyway.

It will sure be harsher now and I am happy about that. Steamrolling my own continent was all too easy on emperor. Fighting hordes of units will be interesting. I have to add though that there are several Civ eliminated by the AI on the other continent, I will face wuite a few tough enemies especially without armies, yes, agreed.

I do have a healthy tech lead though I think. Arabia had infantry to defend but tanks and hotchkisses are too powerful.

It will be interesting to see, if an Emperor level AI can muster up big numbers. They have a much higher cost factor than th higher levels and less free support, but I quess the huge cash could let them do it. If it was straight C3C, I doubt they would.

bad news!!!

I played a long time over the weekend, taking the two islands west and starting to conquer the next bigger Island next to it.

Then in order to get some variation, I started a CCM 1.2 sid game and in the process overwrote my game file and all the auto saves are gone too. I still have screenshots that I will post but the game won't continue after that
I am sorry

Yeah, that hurts.

However, playing with 1.3 instead of 1.2 will let you highlight the differences. And maybe that 'Settler in a Ship;' bug got fixed, too.

Just post a link here, please, to the new thread.

Ok, I am currently testing some CCM 1.3 deity games to get a feel of the game. Maybe I will start a new story and report. Am very busy at work at the moment though and it's not so easy to write a continuous story...

Overwrote your save file?! How do you manage to do that?

Oh, it hurts just thinking about that one. My sympathies.

I look forward to the final updates...

Playing another game and the accidentally overwriting the file, playing on until all autosaves are gone...it did happen to me before...must be the age

Could be as I do it. You think I will just not save over this one, then you get caught up in the game and forget. I play with autosave off, so that is not even an issue.

Nice Story and an Interesting Mod!
:goodjob:
Thanks, Therat, for highlighting this MOD! Looks like a good one to try out!
I'm currently enjoying a great game of AOI 4.0 (leisurely) as the Ottomans. I got my interest piqued by some of Brucka's excellent stories! Your style is very helpful in pointing out the interesting and unique features of this Mod.

I'm very sorry to hear about your lost saves. Do you have CA2 running and keeping some saves logged to a different folder?
