CD not found error - (Read this for problems with CD drive after patching)

...that we are only suffering these problems because we paid out hard earned mony for legitimate copies. The thieves who use cracked versions do not suffer these problems.

I have 3 different CD & DVD drives on my PC - Vanilla will not run on any of them ("insert CD"), PTW will run on the Drive E: but not D: and totally locks up on F:. Conquests will not run on D: locks up on E: but will run from F:

Unfortunately, the only time that I can get to play is when I am working away, but I cannot be bothered lugging those external disk drives around.

I have a similar problem, but it's only because my CD has a nice crack in it from overuse. It's just CIV 3 vanilla - does anyone know if there is a nocd program? I do actually own the game and have played gotms with it before if you need proof... thanks

The original CD is fine, undamaged, available, and in the drive. After applying the 1.29f patch, I get the CD not found error. I just want the patched version of the original Civ3 game to work. Very frustrating.

BTW: I wouldn't recommend the no-cd cracked version downloadable from the Russian mafia--there's a lot of strange junk in the binary file (monkey sweats on a tuesday! and various NET SEND commands), not to mention the significant file size discrepancy.

I got same problem..now i just stay with ver 1.07f...

can someone solve this yet?

i have the basic problem as everyone else in this boat with patches except mine has to do with the 1.22 patch from this site. it now asks me for the conquests cd when i start civ3. i have complete. quick question, does complete come 1.22, 1.29f, and 1.27f updated already?

Well, Technically it's 1.29f, 1.29f, and 1.22. that's Vanilla, PTW and C3C respectively.

If you have Complete, there is no need to patch.

I emailed Atari support, and they sent me another Civlilization3.exe file which didn't look for the CD, so my problem is solved. I guess they must hear about that problem alot if they're basically just sending a No-Cd patch to everyone with the problem. I'd advise anyone with the same problem to do the same, just send them a screenshot of the error next to the my computer window, showing that the CD is in the drive, and send them you detailed PC specifications like I did.

Can you please attach the exe in another post? I think that will help a lot of people.

I had this problem; game demands the CD after applying the patch. I managed to get it to work as follows:
1. uninstall civ3
2. install civ3 from the CD
3. install the patch *while the CD is present in the same drive you originally installed it from*
However, personally I would prefer to have an instance of the game that didnt demand the CD be present, because my laptop doesnt have a built in CD drive.

I'm in the UK, not sure if this applies universally but...

I had a problem with PTW as well, phoned the Atari tech support line and got the following info:

If you look on the PTW CD (data side) on the inside ring there is a number. If the number ends in "/2" then you have the US version of the game and need the 11MB patch (I was told to go to Civ3.com). Otherwise it's the UK version and you need the 7MB patch (Atari UK).

Hope this helps!

I didn't have that problem until I installed Complete. Drive reads all other CDs with no problem, so what gives with this one? Reinstalling doesn't fix it. It will read after multiple retries, opening and closing the drive becomes a drag. Last time it kicked out when after two dozen attempts it started to read the CD ... another defective Atari product. When are they gonna do this right?

Same problem here:

1. Installed Civ 3 Vanilla
2. Installed 129f patch
3. Get "Insert CD" request regardless of whether (or which) CD drive the original CD is in.

I've tried uninstalling the patch, and the game STILL won't run. I have to uninstall Vanilla Civ 3, remove the key from the freakin' REGISTRY, and reinstall Civ 3 (no patch) just to play. What a pain in the ass.

Moderator Action: No he can't. That would constitute piracy, and would earn him a swift ban from these forums.

Well, can he at least post a better e-mail for Atari/Firaxis? If he actually talked to somebody who directly helped him with the problem, maybe that would be better than all of us taking our time to fill out essentially the same e-mails and run down essentially the same person.

"Support" on the Civ3 page consists of two patches, including the patch that broke the frikkin' game in the first place. Apparently they can't be arsed to actually have a form to fill out if you're having trouble.

I have nothing but sympathy for the pirates. I paid money for this game, and it's broken. The downloaders are playing happily. What's wrong with this equation?

Shepherd, check your PMs. Maybe we can work this out together. I have the same problem.

Moderator Action: I surely hope you work this out legally. Piracy in any shape or form is not allowed here. The distribution of NoCD cracks has been deemed to be piracy on these forums, whether or not there is a legitmate need or use for them.

If someone ever does get a fix for this please let me know. I even messed around with the registry settings to no avail. What is the latest patch that doesn't have this flaw? Link?

I came to this forum some time ago with the same probelm and I have not found a resolution.

Anyone know one?

Edit: Im trying to get patched C3C working.

I'd really like the contact information as well. I bought the game and first few times I tried to run it, it would crash before it got started up and give me an error dialog box. Then, I patched it and now it demands the CD while the CD is already in. I tried looking for contact information and am finding out that the makers don't seem too hot on being contacted by us, so...if anyone has contact info, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, the game makers just screwed me out of the money to buy it.

Shylock i'm in the same shoes.
Does anyone know if this issue has been resolved? I bought the complete version of Civ3 including C3C.

I downloaded C3C patch v1.22 from Atari UK and after I installed it, I got the same error everyone else seems to be having, demanding the correct CD even though I never removed the damn correct CD from the drive

Come on guys sort this out!

i have this problem too but i did all the patches(regular patch, conquest, and ptw) at the same time so which one or ones is causing the problem so maybe i can install the others
