Celts or Gauls???

I read somewhere that the capital of the Celts/Gauls would be Cardiff (a city with a very unceltic history). If this is going to be the case, then there will be no Gauls, only Celts or Britons or something. Unless of course the dear folk at fireaxis are even dumber than is sometimes alleged.

Nope it don't care that you realize that parsifal is not American. You called me stupid when you called him American. From what I see you have got a generalisation of Americans. Mabye you should think about that. This is one of those times you want to curse but can't because of rules.

As to the Gauls v. Celts, I have an opinion, but **** it, this thread stopped being about that a long time ago.

Mostly it's a bunch of people rallying around their flags. Yay.

I will say this: this vehemence everyone feels towards America is undeserved, trite, and petty.

Everytime I see some lame "Americans are imperialistic" post on this forum, it's *always* posted by a resident of a former empire which was 10,000 times crueler than we Americans have ever fallen. The irony is stunning.

The irony continues. 9 times out of 10, "Americans are stupid" posts are made by residents of nations whose intellectual and artistic output pales in comparrison the the United States.

I'm not saying America is better than your countries. In fact, I find it comical that people (me included) still get so hot and huffy about their nations, when the nation-state becomes ever weaker as an instituion. What I am saying is that America is not bad, Americans are not stupid. Go around baselessly accusing America of being those two things and instead you may in fact be revealing them as your own weaknesses.

I really think the Celts are more deserving of a place in a Civilization game than the Gauls. The only mention of Celts is when you destroy their villages and gain 25 gold.

And please notice im actually posting abuot the subject of this topic, not arguing with the ridiculous nationalists, when people stop arguing because they are from different parts of the world and realize that we are all freakin humans and need to stick together in this big scary universe we'll be much better off.

Just wanted to correct this.

Pakistan and Bangladesh did not break away from India in 1948 because 'they' felt their heritage called for separation from India. Those aren't nation states, and they were simply regions of the cultural whole that was called India.

What happened was that the British (not the English, nor the Scottish... ) decided to partition India into two different states, prior to de-colonization. There would be one state for the Hindus (India) and one for the Muslims (Pakistan). Pakistan was separated into West- and East-Pakistan (modern Pakistan and Bangladesh, respectively). East-Pakistan later separated and became Bangladesh.

Culturally speaking, the three countries are together "the real India". In my home city (Reykjavik), there is a restaurant where I sometimes go that identifies itself as 'Indian'; yet the owners are Pakistanis and the food there is Pakistani. I asked them if there was a difference between this food and the food across the border (in the North-Indian plain, the heart of India) and he said "No, it's pretty much the same culture". He also claimed that Urdu (the main language of Pakistan) is so similar to Hindi (the language of Delhi and North India) that it's mostly a dialectal difference...

We in the West are too easily fooled by the borders that our ancestors (the imperialists) drew across the world - not all of those countries out there are homogenous nations with a proud common heritage just like so many of the Western ones are! In fact, most of the Third World ones *are not*.
