I created an account on CafeExpress a long time ago but didn't bother to add any merchandise.

It's not a bad idea. When I restructure the main site I will consider creating a marketplace/store secton. I would need some help creating graphics and coming up with ideas for T-Shirts...

But its probably a good idea as some people would and the other possible idea would be to set up a paypal account for donations as it seems to work at other sites although they tend to be smaller communities.

also, a Mug would be cool. with civfanatics, and the logo variations on it

it also probabely wouldnt be to hard to get a hook up to sell copies of the civ game,s and thier various expansions on it either

EDIT- "thread jacker" combined with some cool logo or somthgn on it would be cool as well

EDIT2- yes, i knwo this is about CFC merchandise, but I honestlyl think a CFC only store would not sell much more then th eoccasional mug- while if you had more diverse "net-ware", that just goes on the basic tangent of attracting any person on the internet who knows what we're talkign about (or trick people who dont know what it means into think its awesome anyway) you have the oppertunity to make more profits, both to put in pocket, and to finance the site- which means that all those adds, and hopefully that accused 9I could use a large, and long string of profanities here) spyware, that nearlly forced me to get rid of my PC a while back would be gone

also, if you really wanted to make a CFC only store, the BEST source of material is direct quotes from we, the forum members- shouldnt be to hard to get thos eamoung our ranks to divulge our real name to but on the credits of the quote, as I know i would be willign to.

I like Xen's idea of having a diverse range of goods so that the products aren't connected solely to CFC so that they would have a meaning to non CFC people...

some shirts i've seen around have absolutely no meaning to me whatsoever, that does not prevent people from wearing them.

i dont think its a good idea to "diversify" a CFC store into non CFC stuff, cause then it'll just seem like blatant greed, and noone would buy stuff anyway.
if its strictly CFC stuff, then when we buy stuff (i'd buy a tshirt with one of the better sigs from this place) we know that its unique (to cfc people atleast) and that its suporting cfc.

thats the poitn though- to make money, other wise, you dont start a store int he frist place

it also almost a neccisity (assuming I spelled any of that right) to have a diverse product base- think about the people who are mainlyl comign onto the site; teens and pre-teens, as well as a large range in the adult audience, now speaking from experince, I would want a cool t-shirt; however, a t-shirt proclaiming you favorite internet forum dose not necissarilly "click" with what might be considered cool by the mainstream- yes, i know a good deal of people may liek to wave thie rmiddel finger high and mighty over crowd, and majority opinion, but, as that states, its still the crowd and majorities opinion...

to make a long story short- to make it a success, at least some diversity in products would be needed, otherwise the store would be inherentlyl doomed due to no one buyign naything, or perhaps not enough to cover costs.

(unless you get said prduct made on a order- to order basis, which is another argument in itself why there should be product diversity)

Radioactive monkey would certainly be a start, I remember some nice icons done in the avatar thread...that would be a shirt that would sell to the general public (not that any of them will buy these shirts).
