Just so its easier to see what topics mods post in :)
I like, or find amusing, the way in which certain mods will spam a thread to complain about potential spam... :wallbash:

This is an example of how the behaviour of mods is influenced by their status. I don't think it would be wise to send additional or supportive sentiments to their diluded little minds... ;)

*shh... don't tell them I said that*

Moderators, by definition, do not spam.

If I see a thread getting spammy, I may add a off-topic comment along those lines. I would rather people see that and take notice than have to use ugly mod tags later. IMHO, that is a much more relaxed way of getting the message across.

It seems there may be a problem with the definition of moderator. Ming seems to define mods as those who are in some way superhuman and inherently incapable of error. I'm not sure I would agree :)

Wikipedia said:
A moderator is a person who rates the quality of a comment posted on a site, message board or IRC channel. The purpose is to prevent trolling and abuse of the comment system.

The moderator rates existing posts. Nothing there suggests that the mod status does influence their own contributions.

Dictionary.com said:
Moderators are responsible for determining which email submissions are passed on to the list or newsgroup.

Again, no mention of how the status of mod implies a different behavioural pattern in their own posts.

If CFC has a unique definition for the term, perhaps that should be added to the rules? :mischief:

I'm just playing with you ;)

Thats what I was implying... The idea would be to make Mod posts stand out more just in general browsing.

Exactly what i meant, i mean sure i can look it up but everyone doesn't have broadband, and sure i know who some of the mods are, but adding a sig tag or a distinguishing feature of any kind to make a mod post stand out just a little but more would make it easier for newbies and returners to see whos who.

If the mods wanted to stand out, they would use the extra pixels in their oversized avatars to display a moderator sign.

Clearly they aren't bothered :goodjob:

Maybe that would be an idea, to add a thin frame around a mods avatar, doesn't stand out too much, yet it would be easy to spot (and maybe to forge aswell). How about having their username a different color, say black or purple or something....

Hmmm.....purple......

For the record, I've been the purple moderator for a week or so now.....

They don't need that. At the moment, everyone gets 70x70 avatars except the mods who get 80x80 avatars.

If they wanted to show as mods, they would use the extra 10px underneath to display what looks like a mod button. Ofcourse, they could also use the space by swapping their current images for fatter versions with a border.

See, the problem with doing it like that is that anyone could then impersonate a mod. C'mon, really now, how manby people can tell the different between a 70x70 avatar and an 80x80? Unless they're right next to each other, it's not that obvious.

Even tho CFC has close to 50k users, we're still a small community. Just about all of the people who've been around know who the mods are. And those that are newer learn pretty quickly. (Not that we hunt them down or anything....:mischief:) And we're the only ones allowed to put 'Moderator' or 'Ruler' in the title area....

To me, it makes sense to do something that's beyond the control of the user to make a mod stand out. Make the username different, italize it, something like that...

Take the pre-existing forum avatars. I think they're (or most) are already 80x80.

Turner, why do you want to stand out?

It's not that I want to stand out....people were suggesting ideas on how to make mods stand out, and like I said, to me it makes sense that it be beyond user control. After all, impersonating mods is a :nono: here.

Besides, should I feel the need to stand out, it will be done. :borg: :scan:

So that his killer kitty can be larger than life. ;)

We'll see about that!

Mods should type in a corny German accent: "You vill be moderated".
"Cooler(ban), von veek" "For you, ze flame var iz over!".

well, if anyone was paying attention i said earlier in the thread that TF's name is now in ittalics, i think it makes him stand out a bit, what about you guys?

I wouldn't have a problem with some small indicator, like mod names in bold, or something. Of course, I do have Civ3 Forums Moderator in my sig, anyway.

But WHY would I want to stand out? Most of my posts, I am just a regular poster, answering questions, putting forth my ideas, etc. If I need to make myself known as a mod, it usually means I need to do a Moderator Action: thing anyway....
