[R&F] Chandragupta Maurya/India First Look

Elephants just got deadly.

I like how he gets an early CB, it means you can still use diplomacy after your done expanding in the midevil era. Those warmonger penalties should be gone by rennasaince, insttead of industrial or modern.

Also looks like no Jainism probably as he had Hinduism in his cities. Granted he was Hindu for most of his life, only became Jain towards the end. I wonder if the symbol (swastika) would be a reason why Jainism isn't going to be introduced.

Now, the time has come for my report about the comments.

For now, most of them are safe. There are some guys saying they expected/wanted leader for some other Civ or some new Civ. There are also jokes about "how Gandhi's India flourishes in peace", but that's nothing really bad. IMPORTANT! Don't read the replys.

Anyone complaining that they wanted Isabella of Spain? :p

As if Gilgabro wasn’t testing my orientation hard enough...

It’s decided: I’ll play as Chandi, promote an elephant all the way to the top and name the unit “Za VARUdo” (wonder how many will get this reference)

But seriously, +5 combat on top of Varu’s aura = Giant Death Dumbos

Powerful, but not too innovative. I guess you'll always use that CB with him.

I wonder, is he the guy we've seen before release already? There was a leader in one first look (we've only seen the small icon, like with Genghis) wearing a turban and a mustache. Maybe they planned him for Vanilla?

I am really happy and pleased to see a second Indian leader.

I never thought that one day I could play victory for domination with India :p

They are never becoming a Civ, due to undeciphered writing. :p Besides, they are Proto-India.

I'd call them more Proto-Tamil, but I don't think we're getting Tamil as a civilization either. There have been similar symbols found in Southeast India well after the Harappan decline. One tough part in deciphering it is that the symbols are logophonetic or even purely logographic. There are 400 symbols comprised of 200 base symbols. And that's just what survives.

Here is an analysis of the language. The association of fish and stars is a clue because the words for fish and star are cognates in the reconstructed proto-Dravidian. They also count in base-8, which appears to coincide with proto-Dravidian as well (how they know that Dravidian used to be base-8 is beyond the article). Also, that fish-like symbol might not be a fish.

I wished it was renamed to Pataliputra, its ancient name, but oh wells.....

Perhaps Sukritact can include this in his Historicty mod?

Another leader which will make me reroll if the AI controlling them spawns right next to me! Bad neighbors.

I'm not big on warmongling so I will stick to Gandhi.

He looks great. Hope they will change Persia's ability.

Oh man he looks incredible!

I did enjoy playing as Gandhi before, so an India of the warmonger variety might be a lot of fun as well. I'm not much of a warmonger, but who knows, that might change!
