[R&F] Chandragupta Maurya/India First Look

What was that militaristic city state?
Yasodharapura also known as Angkor is a city that was the second capital of the Khmer Empire, established by King Yasovarman I in late 9th century and was centred on the temple of Phnom Bakheng according to Wiki.

Edit: never mind. That was a conquered city, I think.

Bah, they went with the drama's representation of him rather than the historical statue...weird that the ability seems purely war-based. Was expecting some road or trade bonus.

So, if I understand well, he can have the casus belli Territorial War sooner than everyone else? I'm not a warmongering player so I don't know if it's good or not.
And anybody could tell me if the Dharma UA has changed? The quality of the video is catastrophic on my computer
Not only can he do it earlier (i think), but he gets plus 2 movement and plus 5 combat strength for the first turns after declaring a war of territorial expansion

This character looks a bit to friendly for me. Being a warmonger as he is. I hope his animations are a bit more mean when he declares war on anybody.

Lol did you not see that two-fingered point he did at the player? That's one step from a throw down!

New CB war of territorial expansion incoming.

Or is that the same one that comes with the Diplo civ and Chandragupta just gets it earlier?

Looks like Chandra gets it earlier.

Sorta kinda. Cyrus can declare surprise wars from turn 1 and isn't limited to those who border him.

But Cyrus don't have combat bonuses on top of movement and formal war still has penalties, which are probably bigger.

Did anyone catch his capital?

It's a great ability for two reasons:
1) Using a casus belli earlier means far less warmongering penalty.
2) The extra movement and combat strength means that your military units will be more effective.

Basically, the ability is a permission slip to go to war and take cities since you will suffer less diplo penalty and your units will be faster and stronger.

Oh, he is definitely Not-Gandhi.

Would've liked to have seen more religious bonuses as well considering the leader, but really cool to see him

Oof.

Varu are already incredibly powerful units in the early game, and having them hit you with 2 extra movement and 5 strength would be absolutely terrible for almost any civ.

But from what I see, the bonus only applies if India declares, not if someone else declares. So I guess what you'd want to do is declare on India before India declares on you if you border them. Not that Varu are fun to fight even without the bonuses.
