Cheats lead to poor game skill. Leave them out.

No, they don't. Using them might do this, though. But this is very much dependant on the individual player's personal structure.

In the past, there were a lot of epic game which at a certain point I didn't want to continue anymore. Nevertheless, it would have been fun to have the chance to have a look what was going on in that big black spot on the other side of the world.

I see the difficulty for succession or competetive games and agree, that cheats could completely ruin those. I have to admit that I don't know about a solution to solve this issue, except for using a cheat triggering the setting of a marker into all saved games related to it. Even then there would be means to avoid this marker.

So, after thinking about all of it, for the sake of competitve games I have to admit that built-in cheats seem to be a no-go.

Plenty of game alteration ('cheating') will be possible through the editor, so I hope Firaxis makes actual cheating exceptionally difficult, or at least easily detectable. In the long run, it's somewhat in their best interests. Such matters are crucial to events like GOTM and the HOF, and it's in those arenas where many game bugs are discovered, exploits broken to their fullest, etc.

In short, success of competitive events will make patches considerably more effective.

I would imagine that most members here are aware of some cheats and exploits. But its up to them if they want to use them ive played multiplayer games in which ive allowed others players to cheat as such. One of them asked hey can i start with a whole load of gold i always get whipped by you it might make some difference. It was more of a handicap than anything. Besides i though that trainers and stuff dont work on multiplayer because of the out of sync errors you keep getting. At least thats how it seems to work when i play multiplayer. Certainly caught a few out that way, seems so pointless to cheat tho.
