I remember playing Sim City a while ago and I have been interested in playing some city builders and I have become interested in this game. I have looked at the reviews and a lot of them are mixed opinions. I would like to know if anyone has played this game and could tell me what you thought of it and if you should recommend it.

Get Zeus, Caesar III, Pharaoh, and Emperor. All the city building you'll need (with SimCity)

Bleh, I was a beta tester for it, didn't like it very much. Too much plopping for my like.

If you liked City Life then you might enjoy it, otherwise stick with Sim City.

Not worth the money.
Played Cities XL 2012 and it's real fun for the first hour. After that it's all the same... either no challenge at all or too nasty to achieve (several hours real time building time for a single monument)
For larger cities the performance drops a lot. (even reducing graphic setting can't solve the problems)
I heard that there were many bugs in the original cities XL (public transport not working and stuff like that) but that was no real issue for the 2012 edition.
if you can get Cities XL 2012 for lees than 10$ you might give it a try (as there are very few modern competitors in this genre) but you should also bring some modern hardware equipment.

Apparently there is a massive problem with managing traffic in CitiesXL, you are restricted from building certain road types until you reach X population, and then when the roads are expanded (even by a tiny bit, like a meter or something) every building bordering that road is destroyed :/

Yeah traffic is an issue. Building parallel streets and assigning them for one way traffic only combined with builing public transport asap helps. For larger cities you will either have to restructure your city or plan ahead and leave big gaps for larger highways.
