City Interface/Specialist Error

I've noticed in the city interface every time I try to add either a Noble (using Monarchy) or Spy (building Courthouses, Jails, etc.), the cursor does not acknowledge or even show their popups. The + and - buttons also don't respond for either of them.

This is about the 5th post you've made about this. I've already asked; upload a save and all the modmods you are using so I can see. Specialists are working in A New Dawn, I tested them to make sure.

How do I get the cursor to show on the screenshot?

Edit1:My current setup is 2.9, with New Dawn (custom setup), with dancing hoskuld's 'shint for rom 2.9', which itself he say is meant to be used with New Dawn.

I'd show a screenshot, but the cursor didn't show up. On the other hand, I have a shot that displays the Engineer popup, which I use as proof that the cursor would be hovering over either Nobles or Spies, but isn't responding.

You hit print screen, open an image editing program such as Paint, Photoshop, Gimp, etc. then Ctrl + V and the screen should paste with the cursor and everything.

Oh great, seems like my laptop shows again its greatness. I have both civ screenshot utility and the normal print screen in the same button.
How do you take screenshots with civ?

I know it can be a bit confusing, but when you hit the print screen button, two things happen:
1. The computer saves the screen on a clipboard for pasting on a document as a picture for later.
2. The game saves the screen in a file that exlcudes the mouse. This can be found in
My Games/Beyond the Sword/Screenshots/ This is also the same place where the game saves your current scenario that you're playing.

I can't open the save without your A New Dawn.log, located in the root of the Rise of Mankind folder.

I don't have a save game to provide at the moment, but I can verify that this issue does exist. Both the noble and the spy's hover cursors do not pop up and neither the add or subtract specialist buttons work for these two specialists. However, oddly, the city does sometimes automatically place new workers, when the city just grew, to these specialists, if you normally would be able to place them.
If you click on the city in the city window, to have the governor reset your workers he moves your specialists around. This generally removes your worker from being a noble and places him to be a different specialist. However, whenever a spy specialist is currently being used, this does not remove him. It is impossible to remove a spy specialist once he is placed.
If I encounter the issue again I will send you a save game and screenshot.
BTW, thanks for this mod. I just encountered Rise of Mankind like two weeks ago and it was the best mod I've ever played, it got me back playing Civ again. Then I came across A New Dawn and, well, lets just say I emailed my professors and told them I was sick for the past week. :) This mod and modmod make this the best all-time game I've ever played. Thanks a lot!
Chris.

Normal print screen function doesn't capture the cursor, so I've pasted onto Paint, but what would Alt Tab do?

The forum won't let me upload the log, 'Invalid File' it says.

Taking the high road, you can't beat it ^ ^

Am I to guess that this is a real problem?

I loaded your save up, but the interface worked perfectly for me. I could add and subtract specialists fine.

You could try changing from BUG options the method how specialists are displayed - there's vanilla, chevron and stacker choices. Chevron should be default.

Could Afforess take a look at those settings in the MainInterface.py since you changed the bonus display as well? ;)

What, do you think I'm just made of talent? That I can whip creativity out of thin air? Who do you think I am?

Honestly though, the new resource display was a combination of complete frustration with the old display, along with accumulating bug reports related to the city interface, and 'brute-force' programming... I don't even know how I got it to scale right with different resolutions, it did that on its own. :mischief:

The Stacked display allows access to Nobles and Spies, but in the game I tried, I was running Monarchy and Slavery, so all the extra spaces for Nobles and Slaves did not let me access Scientists (despite having Schools of Scribes/Libraries).

Boy is computer programming work, I dunno how anybody can create something so complicated, so all respect to you developers. :p

Both default and standard have the same problem at square one.

I've been looking at those resource and city specialist code for several years now and don't fully understand it... thought you might have a new perspective on this matter. ;) But, yes, I know how complicated those can be to code - we would have gotten easy if I hadn't added any new specialists to RoM
