Has anyone reached the end of the default city name list in Civ IV? What does it come up with?
I haven't achieved it in an actual game, but when I WorldBuildered myself a ton of cities, it started using random city names from other civilizations.
Yes, that's right. I saw the same thing, but it was Shaka on another continent, and he was getting HRE city names, and the HRE had never been in the game since I used custom game to select opponents.I once did when city spamming during a Great Plains game. It started to just use city names of other civilizations, but I believe that they would start with the capital cities of these random civilizations, so it would go in a next-in-line order for each civilization.
Interesting. My experience it was HRE, just as if I was playing HRE, so Aachen, Prague etc.You don't get names of 1 civilization though. After the last city of my civilization, I may get Tenochtitlan and then Ishandlwana, or Teotihuacan and Bonampak. Do you always get the capital first? I don't believe so, but you could very well be right. That would be strange however, in my opinion.
It used to be that the game would recycle your city list by adding "New" in front of the city name... New Berlin, New Frankfurt, etc... but that might be a Civ3 concept.
The Mumbles is last in the English list: I believe as a present for one of the developers. I see no other reason, since it isn't really a city and it's not in England but in Wales.
I have a few gripes about the English list anyway. It includes Richmond, for a start, which is doubtless pleasant enough but is tiny and, as far as I know, of no great historical importance - which is surely the only justification for including Hastings. Then there are only twenty-odd names in the list, compared with far more for France and over sixty for America and some other civs.
I got as far as Richmond in one game, long ago, which confused my computer as that name is also in the Anerican list, and instead of going on from the English list I got American names . . .
