Has anyone reached the end of the default city name list in Civ IV? What does it come up with?

I haven't achieved it in an actual game, but when I WorldBuildered myself a ton of cities, it started using random city names from other civilizations.

It used to be that the game would recycle your city list by adding "New" in front of the city name... New Berlin, New Frankfurt, etc... but that might be a Civ3 concept.

That was in Civilization 3. And after the last city of the list with New in front of it had been built, it would go through the list again with 1 after each city, and then again with 2, etc. So, you would have, Amsterdam, New Amsterdam, Amsterdam 1, Amsterdam 2, Amsterdam 3, et cetera.

I once did when city spamming during a Great Plains game. It started to just use city names of other civilizations, but I believe that they would start with the capital cities of these random civilizations, so it would go in a next-in-line order for each civilization.

Yeah, it uses the names of cities from another civ. I wb'd myself a bunch of cities once for s&g and it started giving me german names.

I always likede the City name list, and the fact that two different names can mean the same city in real life, ie, Constantinople is Istanbul and Eboracum (low down on the rome list) is York(as in old york(UK)), I wonder if Jorvic is on the Viking List (Jorvic= Modern day york).

Yes, that's right. I saw the same thing, but it was Shaka on another continent, and he was getting HRE city names, and the HRE had never been in the game since I used custom game to select opponents.

You don't get names of 1 civilization though. After the last city of my civilization, I may get Tenochtitlan and then Ishandlwana, or Teotihuacan and Bonampak. Do you always get the capital first? I don't believe so, but you could very well be right. That would be strange however, in my opinion.

Interesting. My experience it was HRE, just as if I was playing HRE, so Aachen, Prague etc.

One time I got bored and started spamming cities as Korea, and started getting Bibracte, then Beijing, then the Zulu capital (not even gonna tryto spell that), and some other capitals.

The Zulu capital isn't hard; Ulundi. I can see you would have problems with the Aztecs though (Tenochtitlan and Teotihuacan being their first two cities, I believe), or the Indians or the Khmer. LO

You coulg get New New York and New The Mumbles, couldn't you? Is The Mumbles in the English list for Civ IV?

The Mumbles is last in the English list: I believe as a present for one of the developers. I see no other reason, since it isn't really a city and it's not in England but in Wales.
I have a few gripes about the English list anyway. It includes Richmond, for a start, which is doubtless pleasant enough but is tiny and, as far as I know, of no great historical importance - which is surely the only justification for including Hastings. Then there are only twenty-odd names in the list, compared with far more for France and over sixty for America and some other civs.
I got as far as Richmond in one game, long ago, which confused my computer as that name is also in the Anerican list, and instead of going on from the English list I got American names . . .

Well at least you live somewhere important enough to have a city list.
