I give up. I took this size 1 city from the Aztecs many moons ago, and it still won't work for me. I click on a tile on the city screen to have a guy work it, and he works it... but the next time I look back, he's no longer working it and no progress has been made. The city seems to be happy and the automanagement is off. What's the deal?

Try taking away the citizen specialist - this way you'l get a guy working the land. I think I'm reading the ss correctly

You are reading it correctly. But every time I put him on the land, he will have popped back off the land by the next time I look. %-P

Well you got me -- that is strange - I also noticed it says 100% american -- but you just took over the city?

Well the yellow border usually means that you, the player, assigned that specialist. I also notice you have the governor on maximize production, although I don't think that would matter.

He's still a specialist unless you click that (-) button next ro him, at which point he should autimatically work whichever tile the game thinks is best. You can, of course, tell him to work a different one.

I have the same problem as you have only with the differene that i build the city
the city refuse to grow and work
and i have no idea~

is that a bug?

I had the same problem in one of my cities but it happened diffrenty. The city grow out of control so i took a few cit'z off to starv it out till it got back to a decent number so i could control it, but what happened is it killed the population back to 1, and when i tried to take the last surviving specialist it did the same thing. The cit could not go and work on any tile. I think its a possible bug with cit count or with taking specialists off.

Based on a thread a few posts up ,you can always gift the city and make it another civs problem :)

Having this same problem in one of my games. Took over Athens, and it has one citizen. I keep taking away the citizen specialist and assigning him to a 5 food producing spot and each turn he pops back to not working it. About to gift the city to the empire I'm about to attack and raze it when I take it back. hehe

edit to add: even when I have auto management on to focus on growth, it still won't work any squares.

Actually Auto managemnt is NOT off. You have, in the governor buttons, set "Maximize production". The computer seems to believe that a citizen specialist will provide you the best bang for your buck. Turn that off and instead set it to "emphasize growth" and your city should begin to grow. Once you get to POP 3, switch back to "emphasize production." Exit the city screen any way you want and end your turn. Follow those steps exactly and let us know if it really is broken.

Okay so I was pressing buttons randomly before I took the screenshot, but you have to take my word for it that I had all the managers turned off and it was giving me this problem. Emphasize growth didn't change the problem.

Wow, that is strange. I am gonna try and duplicate that problem. Very possible its a bug. I would go ahead and post if the BUG REPORT.
