So, I'm trying to get my first ever domination win in a Civilization game, but I don't know how to properly place my cities.
Any tips on city (and maybe improvement) placement? I might also need some tips for getting a domination win in the first place.

Below is an image of my starting island that I feel confident is a good enough starting place

I'd probably go with something like this, but I always play builder and go for a space race victory and these spots kind of reflect that.
If by 'domination' you mean world conquest, you could cram a few more cities closer together and keep them small and pumping units.
Right now, your Stormwind has a couple of problems: 1) it's not on the shore, so no ships and less trade when fully grown (if you intend to fully grow it), and 2) it takes up many tiles, which could be used by other cities to grow and produce more trade and shields. A size 30+ city can have its advantages but you're much better off building two size 20 cities on the same land.

for me order terrain types is like this:

in your map I add settlement in this order:

1111.jpg

So basically I confirm what show Mize.

Of course you can create several smaller cities that you can later liquidate.
These, in my opinion, have the greatest potential.
City 3 to irrygation in later time.

You MUST quick developed map making and navigation because you island have very poor land. You must searching new lands to conquest and develop land for new cities.
