Civ 3 - Access error

I just completed a full system resotre of my laptop to fix some problems it was having. The problem is fixed, but now Civilzation 3 will not load. The editor will load, but the game itself will not.

I get a box coming up that says "Access is denied" with the following across the top of the message box: "Error:Create Process(C:\DOCUME~1\CHRISP~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\~ef7194.tmp)"

I tried cleaning out my temp files and this didn't help. Can someone please let me know how I might be able to fix this.

I suggest you try a reinstall of Civ3, and make sure you do it using an account with administrator rights. You could also try booting in safe mode (or a boot with command prompt only) then clean-out the temp directory.

Thanks for the tip - sorry to sound so "technically neutral" but which Temp directory are you talking about? Could you please let me know where this temp direcotry is so that I don't delete the wrong temp files.

If you're running outside windows froma command prompt, then it will be:

C:\DOCUME~1\CHRISP~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\

If you're in windows safe mode, then it will be:
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\CHRISP (plus rest of your username here)\LOCALSETTINGS\Temp\

Try the reinstall option first though - that's probably the easiest way of doing it.
