civ 3 dumping after map creation screen

ok not sure if this has been covered, i havent had a chance to read all of the posts so here goes.

I recently upgraded to lepoard, and now when i try to run civ 3 and create a new game, as soon as i hit next after the map selection screen the program dumps me back to the finder. Conversely if i try and run a QUICK game, the one where it defaults you as the roman's, the game runs fine, all the way through to mandtory retirement completion.

I'm gonna try and upload the new 1.29b patch and see if that fixes it but in the meantime i wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas.

Here's hoping the patch works!! I'm tired of playing as the romans.


btw running a g4 mac mini with 512mb ram. never had any problems before leapord.

Are you playing the MacSoft version of Civ3 basic, or playing on Civ3 Complete by Firaxis for the Mac?

I believe it is the Macsoft version. That is the splash screen that comes up when i start the game

I do know that the older versions don't run with Leopard. So you do need to install the 1.29b2 patch. You can get it from the link in my sig.

Note that even 1.29b2 fails with Leopard on an Intel CPU, so if you ever upgrade to newer hardware you'll need to get Aspyr's Civ3 Complete.

My apologies for not welcoming you to the Forum, Ajax. You might want to consider upgrading to the Civilization 3 Complete game by Firaxis. It is a considerable upgrade from the MacSoft Version. Unfortunately, it does not include an editor. The MacSoft editor will generate maps that work with it, however.
