Civ 3 Quiz

Is it not 10, as you can be in a golden age? Infact, 11 if you were in republic/democracy! Final edit: 12, if you had the colossus too :D

If i'm right, i'll let somebody else ask the next question :)

Dang i forgot comertial civs and rep/dem govs.......
Colossus doasnt raise your incom on the land scuares, only on the water.

Apologies for leaving the last question hanging, as I didn't get much of a chance to reply yesterday. If I happen to get this one right, then I defer my turn to whoever posts a question first.

Anyway, fourteen. Capital metropolis of a commercial civilisation, built on a gold hill next to a river, with the colossus, in Republic, in a golden age. 2 +2 + 6 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 14.

No points for you. That's what the commercial dock does - the Colossus works on every square in the city radius which already produces at least one commerce.

I thought of one - What is the most unlikely (but possible) combat result? An extra point for the actual probability, but the combat calculators I have tried seem to fail after ~ 3 sig. fig.s.

I'm not sure what you mean and I definately can't figure out the calculations.

A conscript Barbarian Warrior winning against an Army of 4 elite Mech. Inf in, in a Metropolis on a hill across a river with every building built in it while playing on Chieftain?

That was the sort of thing I was thinking, but thyere is a further possible result of combat that is many times less likely.

An injured conscript barbarian warrior, attacking in the same situation, but with artillery in the metropolis?

Edit: for some reason I thought they were added with PTW

How high can the D value get?
base = 18 for mech infantry.
Bonuses:
Hill -- 50%
Metropolis -- 100% (same as wall in city and great wall, but in that case, you have no mech infantry)
River -- 25%
Fortified -- 25%
Palace -- 25%
Chieftain vs. barbs -- 200% (Not sure on this one?)

18*4.25 = 76.5 defense

Attacker is value one and has one hp (the artillery in the city is then superfluous, as all it can do is redline the attacker).

Odds of a win each combat round is 1/77.5. Odds of 20 in a row (4 elite mechs in an army, of course) are (1/77.5)^20, which is approximately 1.636688 * 10^-38. If you tried a billion times/second until the end of the universe (assuming closed universe model), you still would still have less than a one-in-a-trillion chance of seeing it (assuming truly random numbers. I doubt the Civ3 PRNG is good enough to ever see this -- we're talking at least 256 bits of internal state to have a prayer).

Well, I will test it! It will take very long time...
Good luck to me! :)

Of course, when the odds are long, the Civ3 PRNG tends to use the 'ol log-of-odds for battle outcomes. I think log-of-odds combat probability is actually a special ability of the AI spearmen IIRC.... ;)

Doas radar tower help units in the cities.....if yes than you should add radar close to the city that is deffending againts that poor barbarian to your calculation. Also there is civil defence that adds 100% to deffence ( it think, never build it :) )
I dont have a single clue what the chances would be than but this is the closest you could come to impossible i think.

This is admittedly getting really nitpicky, but you could probably throw in a radar tower as well. So using everything Arathorn was saying, plus civil defense (IIRC) and a radar tower bonus as well would make the odds even more stacked, right?

What would happen if you threw in a coastal fortress and made it an injured barb conscript caravel? Would that effect stack with civil defense (I recall nothing of the civil defense improvement offhand, and am unfortunately at work)? I suppose you'd lose the river bonus, but i'm not sure if coastal fortress bonus would outweigh that.

Sorry Shirasto; didn't mean to duplicate your thoughts - you beat me to posting while I was wasting time on the phone at work. I've gotta get my priorities straight.... :)

Radar towers and civil defense were added with C3C; this is a vanilla civ thread.

No they were not, i dont have C3C but i have radar tower and civil defence.

I am sure these are pretty close, but there is of course another event that could ocur during combat...

(BTW, I have to go to bed soon. I am sure someone will get it right soon.)
