Civ 4 Palace

The tapestry is a great alternative to a trophy room - a single tapestry chronicling the achievements of your civ over time. Would Take a lot more work than a trophy room or 'victory arches', but it's a great idea.

If they did just use a version of the old CivIII palace it could do with a smidgen of alteration.

Say I'm the Germans and I've been beating up the Chinese, with the result that loads of my citizens are actually Chinese and I've got a load of Chinese city names - and that this happens just before I start "upgrading" one wing of the palace. I like to change to the "Eastern" "palace-style" and have a "Chinese Wing" to my palace. Presumably the artist intended us to be able to do that, since we can change style throughout.

Only trouble is, the things don't actually line up properly or anything. It's trivial but at the same time irritating.

I like the Heads-On-Spikes option, too. Would have to be careful not to make it too gruesome, though!

I think everyone is in agreemnet on this.

Heads on Spike ROCKS . . .

Those who stand against deserve to thave their heads on a pike before your palace - as a reminder to other Civ's to not to mess with you.

I don't know if this is already in the game, but the more heads on pikes you have it should effect how other civs react to you in negotiations in diplomacy - they should become more fearful of you - and when you demand something, should be more inlcined to agree - of course other factors will have to taken into consideration - but pikes on heads should add some weight to the equations when civ are deciding to meet your demands or not -or even when they get asked by other civs to go war with you or go to war iwth you themselves - if you know what I mean . . .

Nevertheless - Heads on Pikes before the Palace Gates - its a winner . . .

Maybe a way around the gore would be a stone statue of yourself out the front of a palace. As you conquer your opponents, a stone copy of their head is added to the pile under your feet :D

sir_schwick - love your ideas!

Perhaps the player can simply have those options: after a long bloody war the head-on-a-pike appeals, but a surgical strike in the modern age, well, a dignified statue (maybe a memorial plaque in the background for fallen soldiers) is far more appropriate :king: :mischief:

Also maybe a commerative for when you get your first luxuries, first horses and iron, first unique unit built, first contact with another nation... first peace treaty?

Oooo - best yet:
First :spear:

I'd love to see that - would show the designers actually have a clue how their game mechanics can malfunction, and have a sense of humor about it...

Leaders' heads on pikes. I like it
Sounds great, Ghandi's head on a stake outside the American Capitol.

I'm not sure this question really belongs here but it's just occured to me to wonder - what actually triggers "palace improvements" in CivIII? It seems to happen rather haphazardly and randomly, albeit with decreasing frequency ...

In SMAC you could name Landmarks.

Yet ANOTHER good SMAC idea that hit the cutting room floor in Civ III.

:shakehead
