Civ 4 Vanilla thinks its installed when its not

Hey, when I try to install civ 4 vanilla on my laptop with windows XP it stalls/freezes on the part where its download the wonder video for the oracle.

How do I fix this? thanks.

Are you installing from a download or a disk? Are you running setup as an administrator?

If a disk, it may be the disk needs a clean or is faulty, you could also try copying the contents of the disk to your hard drive and installing from there.

Several people have had similar problems recently, sometimes installing from the hard drive worked other times it didn't.

Yes I am an administrator, and I whiped the disk and it still hung on oracle wonder video.

I copied the files onto my computer and used it there and I got this message at oracle:

CRC Error: The file c:/programfiles/fireaxisgames/sid Meier's Civiliation 4/assets/art/movies/wonders/oracle.bik doesnt match the file in the setup's .cab file.
The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor. Retrying doesnt work and if I press ignore, I get the same error for the other files (rocknroll, united nations, etc) untill I get an message saying 'catastrophic failure'.

CRC errors are usually due to a dirty/damaged disk. Try cleaning the disk and possibly the drive. It may work on another drive but that won't be much help if you don't have another drive.

By run as administrator I meant right-clicking on setup and choosing run as administrator to start the setup program, but if you are getting CRC errors I would not have thought that it would make any difference.

I tried installing on my mothers computer, same problem. Now, I have an acer 5000 (A crappy crappy gaming computer), could this be causing the problem? I've washed and dried the disk and Im trying again, if this doesnt work Ill clean the drive.

Ok that didnt work, you know when you start installing and the fan like noise starts up, the noise stops nd the computer goes silent when I get to the Oracle Wonder video. Sometimes if I wait long enough it gets passed the oracle and onto the parthenon but it never gets passed the parthenon

did you try copying the files to one folder on your hard drive and run the installer from there?
