Like a lot of other players I've been wondering what the best upgrade path is for playing Civ V. We have a lot of anecdotal information about performance, but I haven't been able to find any Civ specific benchmarks.

Because the standard metric (FPS) doesn't really apply to Civ, what's the best way to test the range of hardware that's out there? Could we create a mid/late game save, set some parameters, and then have a bunch of users record their system specs and the time between turns?

What settings would we have to standardize? DX9, a specific resolution and graphics options....

What system specs should we gather; cpu make, model, core count, clock; RAM speed and amount, Gfx card make/model, HDD speed or SSD, OS and 32 or 64 bit?

What protocol would we need for the test? OS running with minimal additional components, steam and game at current build, GPU driver up to date...

It wouldn't be difficult to get all the data and put it in an Excel sheet, but my Stats-fu isn't strong so anything beyond basic sorting and stuff I'd have to leave to someone else.

Would people be willing to run a test or are would we just be duplicating testing that's already been done elsewhere?
