You can research 8. Completing six is a victory.

That screenshot raises an interesting question. There is obviously a Star of David and a Christian Cross in the 2nd panel from the right on the top row, which seems to indicate that there is some kind of religious system in Civ5, although different from Civ4.

Yeah. Firaxis has suggested religion -is- still in, I don't know why people keep claiming it's not in. They've only stated it's been altered from the system present in Civ4.

I don't mind, really. Civ4's religious system... eh. It's an aesthetic thing. I hate that, and that it's fine to have multiple religions no matter what, and that it's fine to -found- multiple religions. I'm fond of mods that add some realistic faith clashes, and I'm hoping Civ5 includes that in some way.
I mean if religion founding worked as it did in Civ4, India wouldn't be divided into so many groups that don't like each other. Ignore the middle east, look at how many faiths started on the Indian sub-continent.

Shafer already discounted the cross and the star as placeholder art.

Still, that is the piety tree where religious stuff would be expected.

Anyway, you would expect a polytheistic religion to be the first in that tree, so having both of those first, as well as separate, wouldn't make sense anyway.

If Aristocracy provides something as huge as a 33% wonder construction bonus, imagine what kind of bonuses could be found in the piety tree. Or any other tree for that matter.

The fact that certain trees will lock out will make for some huge decisions on strategy.

Actually, I'm not sure that there's a reason to expect polytheistic religions to come before monotheistic religions, really.

As a game concept, No. As a historical concept, Yes.

I think a strategygame should not have turns, but time like in europa universalis 3. :)

Welcome to the forum.

And many a marriage would thank that idea due to the "just one more turn" addiction. :mischief:

Couple of other things about those screenshots:
1) in the first it says "Golden Age" behind the diamond in the top bar, in the second and third it says 0/500 in the same place. That would suggest a different mechanism for Golden Ages than we have seen so far, if you have to collect points towards them.
2) There are 4 strategic resources in the top bar, Iron, Horse, Oil and something I can't work out. Anyone got a clue?
3) Newcastle has a strength of 9 (see the shield above the city name) and what looks like to be a castle in the city.
4) Promotions still seem to be in the game, see the Lightning symbols on the Cavalry.

If a game is as good as civ3, but it has time not turns, it does addict some, but hardly very much. Maybe a bit worse it could be that it would´t addict too much - I don´t know. For I don´t want to be addicted into a game.

I think I don´t anymore write so that a game should be worse. But I think civ3 is extremely addictive.

Surely, I can recommend all those civs, which I have played, only first and second I haven´t played.
I don´t know how better civ3 is than civ4 for I don´t remember it any well or know it. Myself always watch firaxis´s games to perhaps playing.
