Civ 5 Design Challenge II - Mechanics

That graphic's awesome! It's also really funny how Tarcisio is the only one without a Polandball lol. Also, I'm I the only surprised that we've never had a back to back winner? I could have swore that Scott won twice in a row once, although I could be thinking of the original design challenge.

i dont think that can happen with this challenge because the winner cant rly enter most of the time since they control the next mechanic, unlike the basic civ design challenge

Ok guise here's my civ mechanic for Challenge #10:

If you guys think that it's too open or radical I can change it to something else. Otherwise you have a week to deliver, voting period starts 06/12.

House Dimir under Szadek
UA: House of Shadow
Spies in enemy cities are 25% more effective and are not affected by counter-intelligence buildings such as Constabularies. Begin with one extra spy. If you have a Special Agent in each enemy capital, you win the game.

UU: Doppelganger
While initially weaker than the Landsknecht, which it replaces, the Doppelganger does not require the Mercenary Army social policy to be produced, and does not upgrade or obsolete. Upon defeating a unit with an equal or higher combat strength, the Doppelganger may* become a copy of that unit, gaining all its promotions and combat strength, but losing all of its previous promotions except for the ability to become a copy of a different unit.
*As in, you choose whether it becomes a copy or not. It isn't random.

UB: Watery Grave
Unlike the Constabulary it replaces, the Watery Grave does not reduce the effectiveness of enemy spies. Rather, it increases the likelihood that Dimir spies will successfully kill enemy spies within the city. Spies killed in a city with a Watery Grave provide a small amount of Science, as well as a temporary espionage boost against the civilization the spy belonged to.

Personally I don't like the one challenge delay between winners picking the mechanic, maybe we could do one of these things to unclog this if people agree with me here:
  • Scrap my mechanic (100% ok with this), and whoever wins Niao's challenge gets to pick the next one.
  • Extend the design phase a little bit and run two mechanics at the same time.

I say Option 2 too. It will complicate it a bit but who cares.

My design for tarcisiocm's mechanic:
The Kingdom of Castile, as led by Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar

Unique Ability: Defenders of the True Faith
Castile has an exclusive way to achieve victory: to do so, you must capture all cities controlled by the founder of the first religion in the game and remove all traces of that religion from the map. If you are the first civilisation to found a religion, then the victory condition requires the extermination of the second religion. +1 Happiness :c5happy: per 4 followers of your religion in foreign cities and +4 Local Happiness :c5happy: every time you capture a city belonging to another religion.

Unique Unit: Calatravan Knight
The Unique Lancer of the Castilian civilisation. Does not start with the Formation I promotion, but instead starts with the Charge promotion. 5 movement :c5moves:, up from 4. No combat penalty when defending. +25% combat strength :c5strength: when fighting a unit built in a city following a differing religion to your own. Upgrades to Cavalry rather than the Anti-Tank Gun.

Unique Building: Alcalá
The Unique Castle of the Castilian civilisation. The Alcalá increases the range :c5rangedstrength: of the city it is built in by 1.

Decisions:

Inquest other Religions
Spoiler :
As we meet new civilisations and explore the world, we are beginning to meet people who believe in differing gods, and this liberalism is having an effect on our people. Castilian citizens are beginning to understand other faiths, and have started to question our very own. This must be resolved now, and if we have to upset our citizens, then it is all in the name of our god.

Requirements: You have founded a religion. There is another religion in one of your cities. It is the Medieval Era or later.
Costs: 4 Global Happiness :c5unhappy:. 2 Magistrates :c5greatperson:.
Effects: All of your cities are automatically converted to your religion. Doubled religious pressure of your religion onto your cities.

Form Spanish Nation Militaristically
Spoiler :
Global expansion in newly discovered areas and the establishment of colonies is transforming Spain into one of the most powerful and wealthiest nations of our time. Spanish explorers are constantly moving into new territories and extending our borders. Immense amounts of gold and silver are being brought back to our motherland, filling the coffers of our state Treasury.

Requirements: Spain is not in the game. You control three cities that were not founded by you. It is the Medieval Era or later.
Costs: 4 Magistrates and 1 Great General :c5greatperson:.
Effects: Gain the ability to build Tercios. Additionally, food :c5food:, production :c5production:, science :c5science: and gold :c5gold: yields from settled Natural Wonders are doubled, and gain 250 gold :c5gold: (on Standard speed) for each Natural Wonder you find or have already found.
My design of Castile is supposed to be a religious, dominative civilisation. You should be attempting to spread your religion as much as possible, for all that happiness, but if there are elusive cities, then you take up the Calatravan Knight (a Lancer that's supposed to be a super-Knight) and use your Unique Ability to conquer those cities. Alternatively, you can try a Reconquista-style domination-lite victory, by tracking down and exterminating the first religion, using clever use of faith and war. And when you've done them all, build a few Alcalás for defence.

Well I guess you and Uighur are tie wi two wins each, Urdnot is still beating all of us.

Omg this mechanic is insane, but I love it. My first thought is to do a Yugioh civ based on Exodia, which may be too stupid and/or difficult to actually do.

I was going to do an economic and/or city state victory for Venice, the problem is I don't remember exactly what the conditions were, so I might do something else. Since most people chose option two (do two civs designed around two seperate mechanics, one from Tarcisiocm and one from NiaoMeow) I have to ask, what was NiaoMeows mechanic? I didn't see it get posted anywhere.

I don't think NiaoMeow has posted his mechanic yet. We're just waiting.

Also, tarcisiocm, are you going to change the background image of the mechanic infographic after someone wins?

I'm guessing Niao will be able to do tarcisio's and tarcisio will be able to do Niao's, but not vice versa?

Also, why does this place have a 'disappointed with Christmas gifts' smiley, anyway?

yep

I'm guessing Niao will be able to do tarcisio's and tarcisio will be able to do Niao's, but not vice versa?
yep, I think it's better this way since otherwise the guy who wins the challenge gets penalized by not being able to participate again.

What are you people on about? There is no challenge delay here!

(Also, no rush. One mechanic per weak is far more... Organized.)
