Civ 5 Design Challenge II - Mechanics

Noticed that I haven't voted yet... I vote for Mobfire.

(Three way tie anyone?)

That means Natan is the winner! So Natan, which mechanic will you bring us?

Ahhhhhhhhh well

Working improvements grants you points towards great people.

Note 1: "Improvements" can be interested as you wish (say, farms adjacent to pastures, custom houses on a coast tile, etc.)
Note 2: the GP points must be earned directly. So things like "Working farms increases great scientist points from specialists" doesn't count.
(It'll be kinda too broad otherwise, and besides, I love making things complicated :p)

I think this might work, though it's probably far from balanced and/or not good in any way.
:c5war:The Irgun:c5strength:
Ze'ev Jabotinsky

UA: Rak Kach
Farms and plantations adjacent to cities grant :c5greatperson: Great General points. Your units gain +20% :c5strength: strength when stationed on one of these improvements.

UB: Slik
In addition to the bonuses of the Arsenal it replaces, units built in a city with a Slik gain the "Makhteret" promotion, making them appear to other empires as workers until they leave your territory or are engaged in battle.

UU: Hayil Kravi
Replaces Infantry. Slightly weaker, with 64 :c5strength: strength, but gains +70% :c5strength: strength against conquered cities. You gain a free Hayil Kravi in each city you have adjacent to a farm on the first time you declare a war against a certain civilization.

I tried to play on the Underground Paramilitary side of the Irgun.
May the Great Natan forgive any historical inaccuracy.

HA HA, you played this one right in my cards Natan! (I recently made a design and posted it in the General Design Resource forum! That being said I did make some changes since (oh, and see the 'disclaimer below')

Tiki Tak Tribe (Tiki Tong)
UA: Musical Tone: Gain Points towards :c5greatperson: Tikis by working Banana sources*. Settling a new city may spawn (50%) a Banana Resource in its working range.
Additionally, upon the discovery of Acoustics and Radio, :c5greatperson: Tiki's convert one additional unit and a free :c5greatperson: Tiki spawns in the :c5capital: Capital.

UU: Tiki (replaces the Great General): Unlike the Great General, a Tiki can be expended to hypnotize and take control of military and civilian units belonging to Civilizations that you are at war with. Will randomly convert a bunch of units (1 by default) on adjacent tiles when expended.
The Great General :c5strength: Combat boost will randomly transfer to one of the hypnotized enemy units.

UU: Tiki Goon Balloon (replaces the Helicopter Gunship): Airship unit that takes no time to embark or disembark. While it is weaker (55 :c5strength:) and slower (4 :c5moves:) than the Helicopter Gunship that it replaces, the Tiki Goon Balloon is cheaper to produce (375 :c5production:) and is unlocked earlier, at Flight.

Additionally, it may steal a Banana Resource** from a civilization you are at war with. Doing so reduces the unit's :c5strength: combat strength and :c5moves: movement points by 75% and 50% respectively until the stolen Resource is brought back to a friendly city, where it will be placed on an empty tile. Getting killed while doing so returns the resource to its owner.

*Golden Bananas (from OTiger's DK-mod) provide twice as many points towards a Tiki than normal Banana Resources
**or Golden Banana Resrouce if OTiger's DK-mod is active

Okay, I might have cheated since it only works for Plantations on Banana Resources...or well... Banana Resources... If it's too cheaty, I'll try to submit something else :crazyeye:

Well, MTG should be easy enough

Innistrad
Leader: Sorin Markov

UA: Lord of Innistrad: Great Generals and Great Prophets can be expended to allow you to capture enemy units or Great People.

UU: Angel: Unlike the Knight it replaces, the Angel grants a burst of faith and reduces unhappiness in the nearest city whenever it kills an enemy unit, and may cross mountains. Can be bought using Faith.

UI: Cryptolith Unlocked at construction, the Cryptolith is able to be built on open terrain (plains or marshes) and provides Great General points and +1 Gold if built on marshes, and Great Prohpet Points and +1 Faith if built on plains.

I think this might work, though it's probably far from balanced and/or not good in any way.

I tried to play on the Underground Paramilitary side of the Irgun.
May the Great Natan forgive any historical inaccuracy.

Thats pretty much what I was aiming for :D
(Civilization- wise... I was aiming to an ancient Israel, but I suppose that works too.)

I think that the UB is brilliant, but while I like how the UA synergizes with the UU, its kinda too OP... Nearly every city will have a farm next to it in the late game, so you should add a "may only apply once for each civ" and you might wanna add the spawning effect to the slik or make it plantation based.

"Haiyal Kravi" is a bit unfitting for an "underground" civ, but this design is pretty accurate IMO, even though the Revisionist movement is something I.... Wouldn't associate myself with, to say the least :p

Thank you very much! :D
I made the Hayil Kravi only work on the first time you declare a war against a civilization. I think it already has its share of synergy with the Slik, as the units are built in the city and not on the adjacent farm (thus gaining the promotion).

Nawww, no Emrakul summoning with the Cryptoliths?

I was considering A Shadows Over Innistrad thing with Avacyn as the leader and the Flameblade Angel as the UU.

Ngayogkarata
Capital: Yogyakarta
Leader: Hamengku Buwono IX

UA: Keraton Perjuangan / Palace of Resistance
Can assign a Specialist to work on a Great Person Tile Imrovements. Great Person Tile Improvements also provides +1 Great General Point. Units gain +15% defense bonus and generate +1 Culture when stationed in them.

UU: Prawira
Slightly weaker replacement for Musketman (-2 ATK). When produced with additional XP (the one gained from Buildings), gain one random level 1 promotion for free.

UB: Alun-Alun
Replaces Garden. Same effect, but no terrain requirements and gives 10 XP to newly trained Units.

This design does not fit the mechanic... I've specified that the yield must come from the improvement, directly. In your design, GP points are granted because of improvements, not from them.

(but changing your UAs last part to "GP tiles grant" would fix it...)

I JUST knew, that with Natan of all the people here as the theme-maker, that some kind of misunderstanding would arise from the wording. However, consider the design now corrected (just to be safe) even tho I dont understand the difference you are trying to explain just now.

I believe that the problem was the fact that the UA stated that the units generate GPP, while the challenge specifically asks for the terrain to provide it.

Also, I think it's unclear whether the Specialist or the Great Person Tile Improvement provide the Great General points, but that's probably my problem.

Well... As I've said, I love making things complicated.
Anyway, honorary submission:

Athens (Pericles)
UA: Age of Pericles
+2 :c5goldenage: Golden age points and +2 :c5culture: culture from academies and holy sites, and +1 of each if the improvement was founded before medieval era. During :c5goldenage: golden games, gain :c5greatperson: great writer points from those improvements, and +3% :c5greatperson GP generation per each :c5citystate: city state ally.

UU: Epic Poet
Replaces great writer. Each one of its :greatwork: great works increases the :c5influence: influence you get from quests and gifts by 4%. :c5culture: Culture from treatise is increased by +4% for each :c5citystate: city state ally.

UB: Odeon
Unlike the Amphitheatre it replaces, its great work slot may provide additional +2 :c5culture: culture or :c5happy: happiness. Contains a writer specialist that grants +2 :c5science: science when filled, doubled after entering the industrial era.

+1 for kul's Ngayogkarata
(It looks kinda funny how every smiley in between brackets (20 :c5production: ) in the design posts are replaced by (20 :c5production:). Let's hope they fix that ;))
