Civ 5 Design Challenge IV - History/Eras

Weird. At least in Arabia its considered extremely antisemitic to make links between Jews and merchantry/money. Antisemites always make jews out to be particularly thrifty or miserly so I tried to stay away from anything related to money, hence my reference to Israel instead.

Well, here's my reasoning: Its very common that people donate money to build synagogues. In fact, some Synagogues have decorated windows with the name of the person who donated money for them over it. The first part refers to the many famous Jews... Einstein, Spielberg, Jesus :p

(many compared to the percentage Jews make up of the world's population)
(Plus, I hate it when people confuse racism/ prejudice with facts)

How come I didnt see this? Off we go!

Kutai(350-??? AD)
Leader: Mulawarman
Capital: Muara Kaman

UA: Holy Tributes
Pasture recources yield 1+ faith, but yield 2+ if it was Cattle. Workers may be consumed atop of the completed pasture to "Herd" the animal, which grants a different bonus according to its type. City States that has atleast 3 followers of your religion can be persuaded with Faith instead of Gold.

UU: Brahmana
Replaces Missionary. Brahmana are 20% stronger than its replacements. Brahmana had the ability to built Yupa, which are done by either spending it atop of improved Cattle recources (3-4 Yupas) or expending it normally by spending religion (1-2 Yupas immediately granted to one of your unfinished Yupa complex).

UI: Yupa
Stackable Unique Improvement of the Kutai which can only be erected by Brahmana's ability, and only at the top of a improved Cattle resource. Yupa had the yield of 1+ Food and 2+ Faith, with the Faith increased by 1+ more per each 2 Yupas you built on the same tile (Max.7 Yupas per tile) After the maximum number have been reached, the 7 Yupa immediately turned itself into a Holy Site.

-Herding Ability-
Horse - Take out 1 Horse from the resource, and all units gain 8% combat modifier inside enemy territory. The ability vanish after a city is taken down. Only available at war and only can be done once per War.

Cattle - Spawn 1 Cattle resource nearby. Can only be done once per tile.

Sheep - Give 1+ Food, 2+ Faith. Can only be done once per tile.

Basically the strategy with them is Faith mongering using renewable pasture resource. Yupa can be said as proto-Holy Site. Dont forget to convert nearby city states into your belief so that they can befriended using faith as an alternative to gold!

Dates Changed. Please refer to the original post for new submission dates and voting dates.

Hmm, guess there is time for me to submit:

Khazaria (Joseph Ben Aaron)

UA: yashuvu yisra'el eim ha'kozrim bi-teshuvah shelemah: Gain culture, golden age points, and gold for each citizen following a religion that you did not found. Upon finishing your first social policy tree, receive two free missionaries of a religion of your choice.

UU: Arsiyah (Landsknecht): May be bought after finishing a policy tree, and is cheaper to buy for every outgoing trade route in a city. +1 movement, but pays normal movement cost to pillage.

UB: Sarkel (Castle): Available earlier, at guilds, and is cheaper. Provides additional gold for every trade route passing over the city's borders.

Fairly obvious religion/trade/steppe-warfare combo for these guys. Hopefully dissimilar enough from prominent modded versions.

Don't get me wrong, it is interesting, but the second part of the UA is, well, a bit unrelated, since the Khazars didn't really spread Judaism anywhere else...

I think it's more of a gameplay thing, in case your opponents don't want to spread their religion because they know you'll benefit pretty heavily

Yeah it's supposed to reflect the conversion of the Khazars to Judaism, not the Khazars' (nonexistent) conversions of neighboring peoples. Also because otherwise it would be difficult to access the rest of the UA.

Voting has begun! Check the main post for the link to the voting poll ;)

It seems you can vote more than once, could that be an issue? Its weird not knowing who everyone is voting for like usual aha

I'm sure people will be honest, I don't think the point of the challenges is to win, more to gauge what people think of your design. Hopefully after the voting is over, everyone can say a little bit about why they chose what they chose, the anonymous voting cuts back a bit on the feedback aspect

You shouldn't be able to, but since it's something I may not be able to fix as it stands right now I'm hoping people will be fair with the votes as from what I've seen the challenges help with improving upon designs and etc.

Also after the voting is done you could provide a reason for why you voted for who as that seems to be a good and helpful choice of options.

The results are in!

Einayim's Khazara has won!

If you don't mind please share why you choose who you decided upon. :) I'm interested honestly.

Well, at least I got a vote... =]

I went for the Buyids, personally. The Dailamite UU is really interesting, which sold me hard on the design. My second choice would've been Natan's thing. =]

I went with Khazaria. Most of them were a bit too out there for me, for the most part I tend to prefer simpler designs with pretty easy clear synergy that aren't too complex, nerfy, or op. Khazaria was very concise and simple, and I liked the concepts and its actual playability, like a lot of civs are very gimmicky and would be fun to play once but civs like Khazaria are pretty simple and repayable.

Looking forward, does the winner then get to select the next era?

Hmmm...
That's quite an interesting idea honestly. I won't do that for this one, but for the next challenge the winner will pick the next era :D

I shall submit my next challenge idea in the upcoming few days.

I figure, it'll also give you a chance to make a design
