Civ 5 MP with PCs using Crossover Games?

Has anybody used the crossovergames shell to play Civ 5 (PC version) multiplayer with other PCs? Does it work? Right now my brother cannot play Civ 5 (mac version) mp with my dad (on a PC) because of the patching discrepancy.
