Civ 5 Playthru -How to Conquer the World by being Poor, Upset and Massively Outgunned

Awh, cultural victory, damn you wu!!!, you should have conquered the fable city of babylon.

Although I too was sad that there was no big showdown, I do like that China got a Cultural Victory, that means that the AI can change strategy midway when it releases there is an easier path to victory.

I noticed in a recent screenie you had like, 2k+ gold. I wonder if you could have used that to bribe some city states into voting for you on that diplo election...?

Perhaps. But let's face it, how lame would it have been for me to grab a dull diplo victory after all this? I'd rather go down in a blaze of China death and hoped that was where it was headed. Never even thought about checking if she was close to a culture victory.

I can't believe that you hardly even mentioned city-states in the entire thread. One of the main new and excellent features was almost completely ignored and the game still sounded like the best thing I could ever buy.

Just to add my own salutes and thanks for this great write-up. Your play-by-play was amusing and engaging. I too spent hours reading this rather than PLAYING my copy that GoGamer sent to me today.

I hear there's a french write-up going on as well? I've started my first game as Bismark just because he was such a boor to you. Trying to regain some self-respect for the lad!

Ineresting Game, I see you went for the War way, I an also Playing Babalon as me first game, I am going a different route, I have no wars going on, I have stayed out of all wars so far, I am at peace with all remaining Civs. Playing on 2 Easeist level, this is the level I play on, Game Started with me (Babalon), Songhai, Ottamans, India, China, Russia, Rome, and Creece. Russian's have gone on a major war front, conquering India and Ottamans. Songhai at war with Russia, Rome and Greece, Songhai should be elimminated sone, I have just built 2 more cities, Russians have a lot of cities, they conquered both India and Ottamans, They have also conquered a couple of city-states, their is still a couple of city-states left. I have built a few world wonders, I thick Russia has this game Won, Oh well I will finish this Game.

Wonderful, awesome thread! Thanks. I can't wait to get a new computer that can handle this!

You sold more copies with this thread than 2KGreg with his live stream. I hope they give you a reward for this :)

Been really fun reading this. Thanks.

Oh good point Edmond22 that 'walk-through' hosted by Greg was excrutiatingly painful and so amateurish. The other one I saw with someone else from 2K was much, much better despite the incessant coughing of the magazine/website host.

Greg's effort would have bene better had he planned what he intended to do with learning objectives and goals to achieve what he wanted to do. Oh well... what do I know anyway... [rhetorical].

I quite fancy her.

She's going to be my bestest ally.

I so love this, in retrospect of what happened.

I must say, this is the best thread ever. And this is my first post here ever. And I joined here forever ago.

Thanks for making me want to play even more than I already want to. I unfortunately had a minor computer issue 3 frickin days before Civ5 came out, and now have to wait for new parts to show until I get to play. So I get to sit and look at the box. This pretty much made up for it.

Cheers!

Yet another 'thanks for this thread' post. I joined even longer ago than Joefis above though this is my SECOND post. Watch out for my third post in 2018.

I am also playing the babylonians now and am finding it quite easy on my continent but have no idea whats going on elsewhere (someones building all those wonders).

Although there are some niggles civ5 is an imporovement on civ4, which, given the quality of civ4, is no small achievement. I really wish they explained the impact of number of cities better.

Also joined up long time ago, now up to my third post :)

Big thanks for the write-up. Can't wait to start playing, tomorrow can't be here soon enough..

Thanks so much Lemmy, congratulations on a fantastic thread. I had some niggles with Play.com yesterday and card payments and such... and it's still packing? God, I hope it gets here tomorrow...

Thumbs up to this thread. I've already lost hours of sleep to this game since purchasing it first thing Tuesday morning (I'm a night shift worker). I thoroughly enjoyed your entertaining account of the game, especially the hilarious screenie comments. Well done!

--SB, another lurker popping on after years away

Like many others, I found this enthralling, entertaining and informative. The only thread I've read all the way through in years. Really helped ease the waiting time until the game unlocks in Oz at midnight tonight (six hours away). I picked up my pre-ordered copy from EB Games today (with a free preview DVD of Shogun 2 - kewl).

Well done, Lemmy and congrats for making Page 1, as well as seeing it through to the end.:goodjob:

I had to sign up and say thanks so much Lemmy, had a ball reading it and looking forward to my Aussie copy unlocking tomorrow morning at 11am!!!

Hey man, great thread. I've only read the first couple of pages and the very last one. I actually decided to play the game instead of spending hours reading this, but even after 2 days of glorious playtime across four games (one entirely scientific, one heavily militaristic, one very cultural and one I've just started on a huge Pangea map where I hope to use Russia's extra resources as well as I can), I still get a feeling that this was actually the place to be! Hahaha-haha! Great idea! I kinda wanna do one of these now. Unfortunatelly, I work on the week-ends, so my work week is starting in about 7 hours.... Oh well.

I'm still downloading the demo. I've been downloading it for almost a day and it's still about 30%. My internet connection sucks.

You should have kept playing xD I wanted to see you try and beat her in a military style =P

Epic story, best i´ve read since Sullas walkthrough for Civ IV.
Also made me get my old account password sent to me.
