Civ 5...still a bit silly?

Or when Julius Caesar asks if you want a salad when you talk to him. :p

Update: Aw, beat to the punch.

Agree. Compare this: Julius Caesar thumb up and smile whenever he agree with you. and thumb down and frown whenever he disagree in cIV. and you found Augustus Caesar sitting on throne with calm and awesome (in latter part) music, talking latin in ciV. which one look better?

Yes, but:

1) It was 'humour' more than lame silliness (I still laugh at the Civ 2 leaders.....I hardly ever groaned in agony)

2) Civ 2 was a LONG time ago. The aesthetics of games have changed....it is not a like for like comparison with Civ 5.

I agree, Civ 2 is still my favorite version of Civilization, though 4 (with bts) a bit far behind second (wished they had the bombard ability). 5 the graphics are nice but I cant even get myself to called it a civ game. As for the discussion, humour and levity I dont mind if it has context, I dont mind Caeser talking about salad even though it was invented in mexico, i prefer three's version of them changing clothes throughout history, but really did it add anything to thegame play? or the much lost thrown room of civ 2, it mainly was to do something different and a bit of a sense of achievement through the game. Yes the graphics of 5 is far superior to any of the previous games in my opinion, but thats pretty much one of the very few pro's i have for it.

Whats wrong with the CN tower? Are you implying we Canadians can't be taken seriously? Perhaps we can discuss the issue over a box of Timbits on my moose?

Could 'winter' be effectively added to Civ? Wild animals played a role in Civ 4, and played it well, I think.
The problem is the time frame. In the early game a turn can be 20 or 40 years, so winter doesn't make any sense. If Civ VI has a different time frame it could possibly incorporate seasons, but the time frame's been pretty much the same since the beginning as far as I'm aware, so it might be difficult to change it.

Well, even though 'winter' as a season isn't really thematically appropriate, there could still be some facsimile of it. The world does go through natural patterns of heating and cooling. Instead of winters, how about mini ice ages? I don't think it would add enough to the game to be made cannon, but I'm sure a mod could be fun.

~R~

The only "silly" think I don't like in Civ V are the way the great people look. The generals aren't bad, but the rest..ugh.

Its evil oozes over the United States... like maple syrup!

That's sorta what I was getting at.

Depending on how you look at it, winter would actually not be possible in the civ-style globe since none of the versions of a world have tilts on the worlds axis's. Therefore, seasons would be impossible. Quite logical if you think about it.:yup:

I enjoy some of the silliness in the Civ games. I mean previous Civ games had Montezuma eventually dress up in a top hat. There's always been some silliness in the series. And that keeps it entertaining.

Though, I disagree with the "silliness" factor on Polynesia and the CN Tower. Polynesia falls well within the "What If..." idea driving the Civ games. And the CN Tower is a major architectural accomplishment. Silly would be giving the CN Tower a Justin Beiber quote.

ROFLMAO, oh oh...

Nothing wrong with "what if..." civs in the game. It will never happen probably but I would still love to see Canada get a chance at being a civ.

Civilization: Canadian
Leader: Lester Pearson
Unique Trait: Northwest Passage: All units get +1 movement and +1 sight. In addition units get slightly more defence next to rivers, hills, and mountains.
Unique Unit: Mounted Police: Replaces cavalry unit. Suffers no movement penalties for crossing rivers or hills.
Unique Unit: LAV III: Replaces mechanized infantry. Slightly faster and stronger mobile infantry unit.

I have other ideas hehe.

I thank you someone else supports a canada civ although I have a different UU the avro arrow would replace the Jet fighter with extra +2 movement and extra strength.
