Civ 7 captures the Zeitgeist and that is why I hate it

Average AAA game in 2023 had a dev budget of 200 millions. Civ has maybe 10% of that. A AAA game like GTA 5 sold 210 Million copies. It is a completly different league than civ in terms of sales. Firaxis is a great developer but that has nothing to do with some AA or AAA label.

Literally everyone considers Civ an AAA game. I've seen this label put on the series regularly for a decade if not longer. It doesn't matter what you personally believe should and shouldn't be given the label, general consensus is that it's an AAA game.

They explained over and over again why they made the changes they did during the marketing cycle. Saying it’s for “no other reason other than to be disruptive” is disingenuous at best.
its funny the reason they gave for making us change civ etc is to make us play to the end but now many are just not beginning to start with... so what is better, let people play how they want and expect to in a civ title or have player not buy the game at all? either way they still copied their competitors and are not doing anything new...

Yeah and many people like the game. So that leaves us where? Lol

Copied their competitors? That's like saying every jazz quartet copied the next because they all had a horn instrument.

I've been playing Civ since Civ1 and have few expectations. The devs can be creative and give me something new, just as players can choose to go back and play an older iteration. These aren't intended to be remakes. What's the big deal?

Any mindless linking of cherry-picked negative YouTube videos is automatically defused by linking to the 68 (83%) positive professional reviews listed on Metacritic.

Discussion is always more substantial than acting like a bot. The game is very much not a flop: sure, it has issues (mainly balance and UI related) that fit the bill of a just-launched title. The rest is opinions and there is no objective truth.

Even if you wanted to use professional video game reviewers as a metric (lol why would you do that?) the metacritic score is the lowest the series has ever seen by far

"Paid and dined" reviews, as opposed to random clickbaity YouTubers who literally and monetarily thrive on controversy. After all, it always pays more when there's something negative to be said. Hate sells.

The negativity ends up being plain trolling, and trolls end up frustrated they can't effectively project their simple personal opinion as the One Truth.

But hey, nobody is taking your Civ4 or Civ5 away. Why bother with 7 if you don't like it?

random clickbaity youtubers are not being flown out by Firaxis to review their games early though.....

but if you want to believe in a conspiracy where "random clickbaity youtubers" many of whom are actually fans of the series are releasing negative reviews for monetary reasons and not because they, like 49% of steam reviews, don't recommend the game, feel free. You can continue listening to professional video game reviews (who still gave the game the lowest score the series has seen) over all the fans telling you otherwise

There was no hate in the videos, just constructive criticism including some positive stuff.

Why rely on reviews from anyone else besides yourself when you played it yourself, as did the person you quoted?

like 49% of steam reviews

Many of which don't like the game because they believe it to be too woke. Those reviews can be discarded.
