Civ 7 in VR!

It could be that some of the current UI issues stem from the fact that they already tried to make the UI VR ready. Some of what is currently bad might work fine in VR.
Small chance, and I'm only guessing.
What part of the current UI screams VR to you?
Console/handheld editions might have been at fault since those were developed together with the PC version by Firaxis. VR version got its own developer and looks like they got to start later since it didn't launch together.

One more indicator that this game was developed for everything but its core audience.

I imagine a mobile announcement isn't far off.

I don’t think the game was “designed for VR”. but you would hope they’d prioritize getting the PC interface right over porting the game to an enthusiast platform

This is... fascinating!

I think it was me who suggested bringing Civ 6 to VR a long time ago.
Looks like Firaxis took the inspiration seriously :D

Unfortunately, they don't support the Oculus Rift (at least not yet), and I don't know if I'm ready to buy a new headset just to play Civ 7.
(I used to play a lot of Elite Dangerous in VR (and it was pure joy), but since I put the game down a long time ago, the Rift is covered in dust.)

Actually, it was already in 2013, when I posted this:

What took them so long?

Isn't console ports made by Behaviour Interactive and not by Firaxis?

I hope the playfield is bigger than on that video. That video only has about 40 tiles in it, basically 1 city. I have doubts they get the UI for VR right on a game that launched with poor UI on PC. (Which has better input and is more forgiving with less intuitive controls) VR games tend to have poor UIs as it is.

I bought every civ game at launch up until 5 (okay not civ 1, but I did get civnet on launch)

I bought 6 on Android and will get 7 for quest or switch. I already bought this same game for PC too many times now, this move speaks to me. Quest may be one of two iterations away from becoming the next big console.

That said the AR is not so special I'd rather be in my palace and able to walk around my capital in VR, rather than just look at the table top

I guess I'm part of the target audience for this, but as a rule I don't like buying VR games in addition to owning the primary platform version. As nifty as this is, there's no way I'd rather have this over the PC version. I'm not certain whether I'll buy this one day or not, but I don't think it's likely. Although it's going to be a while until I buy the PC version anyway. I'm awaiting the first round of patches that resolves most peoples' issues with the game (the ones that are fixable).
