Civ 7 - why doesn't it look or feel like Civ?

No one is suggesting, or at I least I don't think so, that they have been paid off.
I disagree...

I disagree... @TheGrayFox certainly is... repeatedly and, I must add, to the limit of annoyingness

No I haven't. I never said they were "paid off" that would imply Firaxis is directly paying streamers specifically not to say things, which isn't what I think is happening. What I have simply stated the objective fact of the matter. These streamer have business relations with game devolopers and recieve literal trips and early access to games as part of an advertising model which makes them inherently biased.

Objective facts and reality don't change because you don't want to accept them. Again I'm sorry you're "annoyed" but that's really not my fault.

You probably shouldn't put words in people's mouths if you don't want them to reiterate their point and correct you

These people were invited because they worked hard to make a name for themselves in a field that doesn't seem so easy to play in.

Is it POSSIBLE some of them might feel they can't or shouldn't bite the hand that feeds ? It certainly is !

Is it CERTAIN ? 100% not.

You have repeatedly written in this very thread that these people are 100% certainly biased with no room for subtelty or doubt simply because they were invited to try out the game beforehand.

No i haven't.... this is you putting extra nefarious words in my mouth again... seemingly because you do not understand how biases and conflicts of interest work. The very fact that these streamers have business relations with the corporations in question and have early access rights is what makes them bias in this situation.

Is it CERTAIN ? 100% not. And to imply it is simply dishonest.

And to slap the face of anyone trying to defend the reputation of those people is downright insulting

These people were invited because they relatively popular video game streamers with audiences to whom they can advertise games for these corporations. Why are you getting offended on their behalf? They literally open their streams by divulging these facts and the obvious conflict of interests, so you understand these biases.

I don't think these streamers signed some contract for a huge pay check not say anything negative whatsoever, that's silly and in fact Drew was invited by Firaxis and was rather open about his dislike for the new mechanics and fear for the direction of the series. The reality of how this advertisement business model works though is that Firaxis is unlikely to invite him to future showcases and early access events. If you don't understand that I really don't know what more I can do for you

It really isn’t too far off in the realm of possibilities that these big content creators won’t say anything that might push people away from Civ VII.
Firaxis gave them this opportunity to try the game out early, obviously that comes with a tradeoff that they can’t say anything to discourage people from buying Civ VII, else Firaxis wouldn’t give them the opportunity. Also, especially Potato and Ursa, it is in their best interest to hype up VII because that’s where their content creation will come from and it needs an audience.

Maybe they’re saying the truth maybe they are not. But to me it’s obvious that even if they didn’t like Civ VII, they wouldn’t say anything about it. Who knows though, maybe they like it. But we can’t say for sure.

Alright yeah I see Civ V too. But I mean the layout from the different toggles like research to the end turn button. And even the movement of the units is the same

Yeah, the Shafer button is likely here to stay.

They brought happiness back from 5 which I am not a fan of.

Hopefully it is more like the Vox Populi mod happiness then the base game global happiness that was dreadful.

I guess when the gameplay videos come out, we will see.

Yet, here you are, responding on a Civfanatic Forum
Yes, thank you for noticing.

I never played VP but fully agree global happiness in V was too restrictive, I hope it isn't like that. Somewhere between the 4 cities of V and the infinite settler spam of VI would be nice, imo. 😁

It has been a while since I played it but it seemed to work in IV, with the corruption mechanic.

Also a free trip to Baltimore and a free hotel room and free food.
honestly you'd have to pay me do to that, to compensate for my time, IMO it's irrelevant to the discussion.

Are you a relatively popular video gamer streamer/content creator who earns income and creates a community around Civilization content?

Of course most normal people aren't taking time from their day jobs to go on free trips to go play an early access video games for a few hours

Corruption was Civ III, CIV IV had city maintenance which worked well but meant you could bust your economy and have no way to recover.

infinite settler spam of VI
VI doesnt have this due to loyalty, progressive cost of Settlers and slow movement.

Seriously I've played many games of Civ IV with 100+ cities, you just can't do that in VI.

I mustn't be normal then, I would have paid to go!

Well, it is sort of part of their job. I wouldn't mind a free vacation to play Civ. 🙃

I heard the food is pretty good in Baltimore, too. Would be nice to visit sometime.

It's early days, but it's looking more "Civ" to me than V or VI did. For starters, for me Civ was never about tediously giving orders over and over to unstacked individual units because they keep getting in each other's way.

Probably my favourite Civ memories are from Rhye's and Fall for Civ4 anyway, so the changing Civs over time and crisis ending each age make me think back to that and seem really cool.

Fair, my memories of the older games are very hazy at this point. I prefer VI to V, and a big reason is more lovely cities.

yes it's a business trip.

seeing the game and making money from the reviews are their motivation. not the payed trips, that's normal.

Interestingly all this talk of Humankind has got me wanting to play that game. I only played it briefly when it came out, I didn't like it. I wonder if any of the patches and updates have made that game any better. Can anyone comment if it got better at any point?
