CIV Gold!

Hello,

I seem to have a minor problem with the mod. :(
I patched to 1.61 and then i unzipped the file. I copied it to the "mod"
folder under civ4.
I run it, everything goes perfect, the game starts up.
It says its civgold, but when i open the civilopedia, i see only the old civs.
Same goes for units. It's as if the mod didn't do anything, yet its running.

Help would be so greatly appreciated.

Thx,

2Cb.

There is a long-standing caching problem with Civ4. Basically, the program is reading some old files even though you've loaded new ones.

Look a few posts up at the advice I can re: the "_Civ4Config" file. Doing that should solve your problem.

But first you may want to try starting the game with the "shift" key held down. This clears the cache.

"Update" who said "update", when is it coming out? jj = (just joking) guys

We're hoping to have version 2.0 out by the end of the month.

Fast approaching the end of the month... am frothing at the mouth... wife signing divorce papers... you guys are the best!! I can't wait!! Wish I could help, but am design challenged.
Quick question as well: any new units, techs etc. planned?
Again, big thanks to all of you for Civ Gold - I haven't stopped playing!

can i still play as the regular civ 4 civilizations like Rome and Greece and stuff?
Yes you can. We didn't take anything away, we just added new civilizations.

You Unzip the files into your Mods folder.

So when's version 2 coming out?

The plan is for the end of June, but the LHs take a long time to do and there are always other things going on. Plus we have to assemble and test. Maybe Monday, but...

Okay everyone, we're running just a bit behind here. Still need to complete some artwork and do some testing. We're probably 2 weeks off the pace.

Take your time... your mods are great and as much as I would love to play it, patience is a virtue... I was just wondering, what is to be expected with 2.0? New techs, buildings, units, wonders? Or simply civs?

Thanks and keep up the great work!! Wish I wasn't so computer illiterate I could help out... Anyways looking forward and keep up the great work! :D

CIV Gold is pretty much a civ-only mod - we don't want to step on toes of those making graphics or civs changes; we just want them to turn to our pack when they want to integrate new civs.

There will be new units, however, in two ways - civ UUs (of course) and we'll add White Rabbit's "Ethnically Diverse Units".

When "Warlords" is released, we'll likely go back and add unique buildings to bring them in line with the other civs.

Is it possible then to combine Civ Gold (1.XX and 2.0) with other mods then? If so, how would I do that?

Thanks! Again, keep up the great work... I am learning Python and other fun things, so I may be perhaps of use for Civ Gold 53 or so!! :D

Hey guys I was just looking over the civilopedia entries for the new civilizations and leaders. Anyway I notice a few typos and weird errors where the text would be replaced by strange characters. Anyway it’s probably not a huge concern in the grand scheme of things…but its kind of funny looking.

So here’s of list of things I noticed.
There’s a typo in the Aborinine Empire entry, “BP” is written instead of “BC”. Also I thought that there might be a bit more info on the civilization itself, and not so much on the nature of the word Aborinate.

There’s a typo in the last paragraph of the Abyssinian Empire. There are a number of typos throughout the Babylonian Empire entry.

There’s a text error in the Canadian entry, last paragraph. There are a number of typos in the Carthaginian Empire entry.

There’s a text error in the second last paragraph in the Malaysia Empire. There’s typos in the second paragraph of the Portuguese Empire “ are used in place of ‘

There is a large space in the first paragraph of the Scottish Empire entry. There appears to be some sort of typo or mistake in the Sumerian Empire entry in the second paragraph involving dates given. In the Turkish Empire entry dates are given in B.C.E and C.E instead of BC and AD. There are also errors in the second last paragraph. There are also a number of typos in the Viking Empire entry.

Most of the typos are simple things like a missing comma or period or extra space or something like that. Nothing crazy difficult to fix. The text errors are a different story; I don’t know what causes them and how long it takes to fix those.

I noticed more of the errors in the leader entries.

There’s an error in the second paragraph in the Afonso Henriques entry. There’s an error in the fourth entry of Caute, also an error in fifth and seventh. There’s a typo in the first paragraph of the MacDonald entry. Also an error in the third paragraph. There’s a typo in the first paragraph of the Mbatian entry. There are a couple of errors in the second last paragraph of the Mehmed II and Menelik II entries. There’s a large typo in the Ragnar entry, the word PARAGRAPH appears all in caps. There also appears to be errors in the second or third paragraph and an error in the fourth. There’s another of those PARAGRAPH errors in the Sejong the Great again. There’s an error in the second and last paragraph of the William van Oranje entry.

You have to compare XML files that are identical, then merge them.

In other words, if Gold uses "UnitInfo.XML" and so does another mod you like, you have to make one "UnitInfo.XML" file that has all the content of both.

If the files aren't the same - i.e. a mod uses "BuildingInfo.XML", while Gold does not - no editing is necessary.

Thanks! Again, keep up the great work... I am learning Python and other fun things, so I may be perhaps of use for Civ Gold 53 or so!! :D

How about for 3.0? Thanks for your comments.

Thank you for all this. I'll go through these one by one before 2.0 is released. I thought I had caught most of these in the latest version, but I will double-check.

I'm very much looking forward to the release of 2.0. Do you have any other previews of the new leaders?

I was wondering if there would be some sort of legal problem with doing the same type of modifications to Warlords leaderheads (when it's released). What I mean by this is it's okay to do them with vanilla leaderheads because you need to buy the Civ IV disc to use them - therefore no loss of revenue for Firaxis. However, with the add-on product, you'll be producing similar characters that the add-on has - so Firaxis might see that as a problem, as people wouldn't need to buy Warlords to get those leaderheads.

Having virtually no knowledge of legal issues (I'm really saying I don't know what I'm talking about ;) ), I'm making no claims that this is the case, I'm just curious.

I'll post something late tonight.

The delay is because our team is getting a bit burnt out with this and other mods. We're still moving forward, but it's heavy. Second, these civs are far less refined than the ones from the first pack so there is more to do in terms of text and graphics.

There would probably be a legal issue. We'll likely to some work after Warlords is released for those who do buy it.
