Civ Ideas & Suggestions Not-Worth-Their-Own-Thread

I'd like to see a Casus Belli for going to war immediately when another Civ gets away with espionage with a spy. Players should be able to declare war if a tech is stolen, money is stolen, art or writing and such is stolen, even if an industrial zone is pillaged. Today the player just has to deal with it, no re-course is allowed until after denouncing and waiting 5 turns.

I also liked the previous versions of the game where players had the ability to gift units to a city state to help them out when they have been attacked.

Warmonger penalties should be reduced or eliminated when a player gets attacked by another civ. If I'm going to get attacked, if I can beat the opponent back then they have to pay, and the player should be allowed to take 1 city with no warmonger penalties.

What about giving spies the ability to convince ai civs to declare war . So if you want to get an enemy civ killed by another civ without declaring joint war you can get your spy to convince them to declare war . However if your spy is caught both civs get grievances to you . One for manipulating the friendly civ and one for the enemy civ you wanted to be targeted for war

Ranged units should be disallowed from firing at cities that are at zero health. The AI will waste their ranged units' shots firing at zero-health cities, which has no effect, when they could be doing something useful with them.

Also, to make the AI better at capturing cities, it might be beneficial to allow any non-air military unit to capture a city that is at zero-health. Or, at least, make it possible to mod this, since it doesn't currently appear to be so.

I think it makes sense to have Great Philosophers, given their historical importance.

Not sure what particular benefits they would add, but I'll trust the devs with this. Maybe a combination or diversity of science and/or culture bonuses, or some unique benefits (similar to great merchants providing unique luxury resources)

Random game/map seed option when creating a new game, but mainly for multiplayer. "Just to avoid preloaded/explored maps for multiplayer?"

I saw a guy in another thread saying that Forts are generally kind of useless in this game, at least in singleplayer, and I have to agree with them on this. Thus, I propose a series of changes to Forts:
  • Forts now unlock at Defensive Tactics (Classical) instead of Siege Tactics (Renaissance).
  • Forts can be built in owned territory or in unclaimed territory; they cannot be built on the territory of City States or of other Civs.
  • Forts gain a (weak) ranged attack, can heal units stationed on the same tile, and exercise ZoC in a one-tile radius around them.
  • Forts cannot produce units, either through Production or Gold/Faith buying.
  • A Fort built on top of a Resource will give access to said resource, but will not grant any Yields from that Tile.
  • A Civ can request the removal of forts belonging to another Civ that it thinks are too close to their borders (2 tiles or less). Refusal will give a "Border War" CB.
I figured that these changes, which would essentially transform Forts into a cross between a Tile Improvement, an Encampment, and a City, would help to promote early- and mid-game colonization of distant lands, as well as eliminate some fairly silly settlement situations (such as building a City on a 1-Tile island just to get a resource).

Just a thought, maybe they could put a small sporadic aurora borealis on the north and south pole for aesthetics and maybe even tourism and breathtaking tiles underneath it.

Also as a natural wonder the Wadden sea, it's a beautifull one of a kind heritage site running from the Netherlands all the way through the german coast ending in Denmark

I am surprised Mughals have never really been represented yet. I would like to see one of the new civs be the Mughal empire, probably with leader Akbar, who conquered and unified most of the Indian subcontinent. The Taj Mahal has always been one of the World Wonders, and was built by the Mughals; this civ can be pretty well balanced with architecture, agriculture, religious freedom, trading, arts, and strong military.

On a more personal note, I would love to see Pakistan, with the leader Quaid-e-Azam. A more recent 'civ/leader' but from the same timeframe as Gandhi... not sure what would be a good characteristic for the civ but a core identity from the start of the nation and from the founder was the notion of religious identity having governmental representation and independence.

Policy card:

Wildcard
Prerequisite: Political Philosophy
Obsolete: Ideology
25% faster research of unearned eurekas/inspirations

This would only apply to the eureka/inspiration portion of a tech/civic, not the whole tech/civic.
With planning this can be slotted in, when both tech and civic aren't boosted.
Obsolete with Ideology means you can't have this with a tier 3 government,
so in a tech victory you most likely can't benefit from it endgame.

I hate in civ how all civs are balanced. I understand it from a game standpoint but from a historical standpoint, it just isn't realistic. For example, no country today besides England has conquered as much of the known world as Rome did. So here's what I propose; There are different levels of civ strengths. Not so much that one would be unwinnable with, just a realistic advantage. Here's what I was thinking for the tier list. (Please note this is not meant to be offensive and that I am looking at the civs at their strongest to date. Some civs just haven't reached their strongest yet.)

Top: Zulus, America, England, Rome, Macedonia, Mongolia, Russia, Germany, Persia, Chinese, Japanese, Norweigan, Ottoman
Mid-Top: Arabian, Aztec, French, Greek, Korean, Mali, Phoenician, Scottish, Scythian, Spanish, Swedish
Mid: Australian, Cree, Dutch, Ethiopian, Hungarian, Incan, Indian, Maori, Mapuche, Mayan, Nubian, Polish
Mid-Low: Brazilian, Canadian, Georgian, Gran Colombian, Indonesian, Khmer, Kongalese
Low: City-States

All of these civilizations should still be playable but I think that it kinda stinks when AI Rome is being destroyed by the Incan. (No offense to the Incan Rome was the greatest civilization ever.)

Idea for amenities, spices and food linked to cuisine generating culture. More people liking your cuisine, generating tourism and sending cultural pressure abroad.

If you don't have enough growing in your country, trading spices can help with that making trade even more important

Norway needs a huge buff. They are nowhere near as powerful as they were in real life.

I dont know if this has been created and posted. I am never lucky with 'searches', anyway .... :)

My wish is a release of this game with the edition called " Dominate or DIE "

This fantasy version would be one where the only victory condition would be just Domination ... nothing else.

I can easily imagine players out there who are playing the current versions creating a new game and choosing only 'Domination' in the 'Advanced Menu', with custom game speed set to '0', level more than 'Prince', Barbarians disabled, perhaps adding another AI opponent and installing the full set of 'Steel & Thunder Unique Units' mod... ( well done guys ..... they rock )

The game would have a smaller install footprint, PC resources would be generously available, and gameplay would be smooth. Additionally, developers could collect all the best mods out there and integrate it into the game itself.

I say 'Give the people what they want' ! ( like the Kinks song )

All versions of this game that I have played including earlier ones have been well done, respects goes out to these hard-working guys and of course Sid Meier himself.
Many times I have only used a small portion of the features included, but come on, there's no spice when no fighting takes place and I am plodding slowly through the Tech tree and Civic Tree.

Enhance the fighting-scenes animation, add a slow-motion option for combat, and make it full screen ! Allow certain battles scenes to be recorded so ego-players like me can show off ( just kidding :) )

Would love to see some responses to this ... or at least tell me .... " Hey dude ... thousands have posted this before ....." :)

Happy Dominating !!

"Never criticise a riflemen until you've walked a mile in his shoes, that way he will be barefoot and you will be out of range."

Idea for another great person option, have special agents like super spies. Historical figures could be people like Mata Hari or even James Bond for all I care. Each having their own special charge or sets off super missions.

Call them Special agents

I'd love if epic battles would go slow mo. Like OMG a warrior just beat a knight Slow MO time!!! I'd also love if the longer fights you do could be automaticly captured so everyone can see your tactial skills
