Argh, cant get used to the fact that Civ 2 doesnt got luxuries, and the only way to make people happy is to use the luxurie slider... And their democracy/republic way of war weariness is just too damn strong to cope with...

why you downgrading?

Yeah. . . there's too many things that are different. . . but I do play Civ2 better now. Civ1, tho, seems to be pretty good still.

Civ2 was great in the day but I don't want to ruin my memories by playing it again after civ 3. I may try it out again 1 day time permitting

The thing is, the load times for Civ 2 are much, MUCH faster... So, for an afterschool sort of game, Civ 2 is more suitable... and, its not THAT bad...

Well, of course things are worse when downgrading. But I do miss the movies and the music form civ2

I do miss that corruption is eliminated under Democracy and Communism. I miss being able to buy units and cities, but am glad the AI can't buy my units with Legions. It was fun to be able to reserach Ironclads without having Bridge Building or even Philosophy. I also miss not beign able to conquer an entier AI with their RR system because of ROP. Although that made a lot more sense and helps gameplay. Playing Civ II certaintly brings back memories, but it also puts in prospective some of the major and cool advances of Civ III.

i still like civ2, but i hate when the AI build a city right next to mine.

And you either had to build as many cities as possible, or spread out your troops to block workers and engineers.

Yeah, I hate how they have no sense of boundary and stuff... Well, actually, in Civ 3 I try to cheat the cultural boundaries as in that if there is a gap somewhere, I might actually try to build a city there.

one cool thing about civ2 was that it was like any other windows program, it was very easy to run winamp, and then easy to change songs etc

also i miss ZOC,fanatics, the guys in black PJs(rebels?)
alpine troops and the kick ass stealth fighters multi kill capability and kick ass submarines

in civ2 i used to find a good chocke point and send troops there to block movement, which was easier to do in civ 2 beacause of zone of control,u only needed troops in every other tile!

then later i sent settlers/engineers to build fortresses

i do the same blocking thing in civ3, only it takes more troops, the border feature thats in civ3 dosent help me much since AI has no respect for it anyway, they move tru my land like it was theres

most of the time they declare on me if i ask them to leave

Why, I do it all the time, running Winamp while playing Civ III. No trouble at all!
Just make sure you have Winamp running before you start Civ III. Then you can easily Alt+Tab between those programs.
Or you can just press the Windows-key on your keyboard any time to activate the Start menu.

I'm not sure if I miss the concept of ZOC or not... It made easier to control large chunks of territory with few troops, but it made it too easy. On the other hand, combat was more interesting from a tactical point of view...

Since Civ 3 refuses to run on my laptop, I only have Civ2 to waste time with at work.

I also didn't know about modding and stuff until Civ3, so I'm interested to see what people have done with Civ 2 lately.

I reeeeaaaalllllyyyyy miss fundamentalism! I've been desperately trying to find a way to make fanatics (i.e. only for fundamentalism + no support) in civ III, but I don't think it can be done without sacrificing either armies or nukes =(.

Civ2 was the greatest game ever made simply for the fact that I could make great scenarios with it. You guys are only citing the lame ones. :P

But Civ3 (with Conquests) is also fun to mod so, while civ2 and it's infine expansion capabalities will always have a special place in my heart, I think I've finally moved on :P
