Apparently (according to MarkG on Apolyton), the combat change has been cut from patch 1.10!

A big thumbs up to Firaxis/BA for listening. :goodjob:
 
Yay! Now if only they don't sneak it into the official patch without telling anyone. I *seriously* doubt they would do that, though. In general, I've been very impressed by the representatives of Atari/Breakaway/Firaxis we see here.

Now I can *really* look forward to playing with the 1.10 beta patch.

I should say "THANKS!!!!!!!!!!" again to whoever made the decision to make a public beta patch available ASAP. That is definitely appreciated!

Thank you Firaxis / Breakaway / Atari! I hope you all survived the clamour without regretting that this thread ever started :) It seems to me that it worked out well. Disclosing the contents of the beta patch in advance has had a beneficial result, possibly even saving patch cycle. Thanks in advance for the patch, and thanks for listening!

Now before this thread gets too quiet :lol: , any chance you could tell us the details of the corruption fix? (Half serious :lol: )

What I'm wondering is why can't their "new combat system" only be used in cases where something like a spearman is fighting a tank? Only use it in cases where the technological gap between the two units is fairly sizeable. When you have units of "equal" stats fighting each other, use the standard combat being used right now.
 
I think this is just a smoke screen. They're telling us it won't be implemented, but they go ahead an implement it anyway secretly.

Then they'll have a good hearty laugh all of Christmas, checking in on the frustrated grognards lost for ways to prove that the new combat system is/is not in effect.
