I played the Persia/Regent COTM recently, my first one ever, after many years playing Civ3 and various mods downloaded from this illustrious forum. I didn't submit my final save as I had been using the Flintlock patch and only noticed at the end that this was disallowed. Sure I wouldn't have been anywhere near the leaderboard anyway! Regent or Monarch difficulty was a plus for me - Monarch is already a challenge. I have also been playing through the nine Conquests after seeing some of Lanzelot's tales. I think custom rules and/or custom maps are a good way to go.
