Civ in real life

According to latest news, China has announced its support for Russia. However, given the long history of bad blood between the two giants, one wonders if China is just being deceptive as usual and displaying "Friendly" while hiding all the negative modifiers, such as "They covet lands you currently own!" (the Primorye area which was part of China during the Qing Dynasty) and "You are competing for the favor of the same city-states!" (competition over influence in the Central Asian republics) and "You have gone to war in the past!" (Boxer Rebellion, Sino-Soviet border conflict, etc.)

Russia's trade route with Kiev (cheap natural gas shipments) just expired and they have declined to renew it.

The other players think that Russia had just been waiting for the trade route to expire before DOWing Kiev to prevent the loss of a caravan unit.

Edit:

Russia has called up both the EU and the US saying they are both "getting too friendly" with Kiev following Russia losing ally status to the EU.
In addition, Russia is claiming they lost only ally status due to a coup instigated by an EU spy; but the EU is disputing this and say that Russia lost influence simply due the EU running the Freedom ideology and having run a caravan to Kiev for a few turns and reminding Russia that the Order ideology they are running doesn't provide influence points from trade.

Some commentators are predicting that at the next World Council meeting that Russia may call for a resolution to embargo city states but others counter that even if Russia proposes it that such a resolution would fail by a 3:1 margin.

Hi guys, just yesterday I got something brilliant.

Spoiler :

I decided to try Earth 2014 Mod (very good scenario which simulates modern world), launched as Germany, and this is what happened in the FIRST AI TURN, first message from Russia
Oh, by the way, few turns later Russia harrased Ucraine and Poland (City - States in this mod) and currently in 2020AD my 'European Union' forces protect those nations from Russian agression :crazyeye:

This is so perfect. Especially with 'Putin the Terrible'

Well... Try playing with mods, some of them introduce new civs and leaderscreens :p

Especially I recommend Earth 2014 Mod, available on steam workshop.

Currently in my Germany gameplay, Putin the Terrible not only has cold war with my 'European Union' but also conquered Mongolia and Kurile Islands. And our armies are amassed near Kiev :p

BTW, like this brilliant Putin on imgur :D http://imgur.com/8yqrRsb

It's all Russia's fault for building ships in a landlocked sea. They should have disbanded them long ago and saved on maintenance costs.

What's weird is that Russia just had the International Games, yet they certainly aren't getting any boosts to tourism or city-state relations... :mischief:

Oh they're getting plenty of tourism bonus, but don't forget they have a different Ideology, low Happiness to start off, and wasted a lot of hammers on the Games that could have been spent more usefully.

After all, the player is clearly going for a Domination Victory, having spent too long messing around with trying for a Space Victory, and now he's gone for a Project that feeds best into a Cultural Victory?

Clearly Putin is a noob, and more used to Warlord, but feels he ought to be Immortal. :)

Russia has an open border agreement(Crimean Naval bases) with Ukraine and will occur sever warmonger penalties, if they declared war.
Plus Ukraine has asked Russia to withdraw their units on their border, and Russia didn't declare war immediately, thats another possible warmonger penalty.

I can't wait some Russian trying to punch some Ucrainean. Then they have to declare a war so their open borders expires immediatly. Then we see (only if we have spies there) Russian troops stangely teleporting out from Ucraine.

More like.
The city state of Crimea has allied with Russia, replacing Ukraine. Russia sends its army into the city state territory. Ukraine denounces.

Just in, Kiev has now given the major powers a city state request of giving them cash to replish their treasury after having been bullied by Russia.
It looks like the EU will accept and increase their influence points with Kiev.
(This has followed Kiev's earlier city state request to denounce Russia as a bully, which both the EU & US fulfilled but Kiev liked the language in the EU one better and so it was the EU that got the influence points)

---
The EU and US have pledged to protect Kiev, but Russia called them both saying saying it had bullied Kiev. Both the US & EU told Russia, "You will Pay", to which Russia responded that this was empty words and they still feel it was in Russia's best interest to bully Kiev.

All Autocracy and Order civs must have terrible happiness at this point from Freedom's cultural dominance, unless they have enough sources of happiness somehow to counter it. And in China's case, the Great Firewall must be helping.

Which reminds me...is present-day Russia following Order, or Autocracy? We know that back when they were the Soviet Union they were Order, and then when the ideological pressure from the Freedom civs got to be too much and they lost all their previously conquered city-states to cultural defection (after which those CS were liberated), they switched ideologies. Everyone assumed they switched to Freedom, but what if...they had actually switched to Autocracy this entire time!

Definitely Autocracy.

If Russia can claim parts of other countries that are populated by Rus, then clearly it must give up all parts of Russia that are not populated by Rus. I think the EU should recognize and send a peacekeeping force into Chechnia, as it is not populated by Rus. Siberia should also be taken from Russia, as the native Eskimo are certainly not Rus. Furthermore...

Königsburg ist Deutschland! Vertreiben sie Rus!

That seems only fair. But of course, Russian double standards...

Definitely Autocracy.

Sheesh, Russia could have just taken Gunboat Diplomacy and parked a ton of units next to Kiev for several turns, instead of clumsily damaging its reputation like this.

Yeah, but they decided to take Clauswitz's Legacy back in the '50s and never used it before the turn limit expired.

Turkey has just given America open borders. Now, unknown number of American battleships are 8 tiles away from Kiev. Seems like America is ready for war.

sweden fears russias military might.
america will soon win a cultural victory.

Hmm, I think you may be understimating the culture output and gpt of China here.

They may be wearing blue jeans, but they're now the manufacturors of said jeans, and that "World Banking Crisis" event that occurred (must have been a bit of code from Civ4 slipping in that allowed random events) has hit America a lot worse than China...

Why do Russia even want Sevastopol?, it's still constructing its core buildings again after it got conquered by the germans and reconquered by the russians some turns ago during world war 2.

Well, those buildings were bought with gold looted from German cities and improvements ;)

Turkey and Japan denounce Russia. Resistance in Sevastopol city.
