A few minutes into gameplay. the game just crashes Windows says "Sid Meier's Civilization V has stopped working...Windows is checking for a solution to the problem." A few seconds later the whole game closes. I can not play at all for more than 2 minutes at the most.
This has been happening since yesterday, when I went into the Global Defines to change the unhappiness penalties. I did not change anything else, and I am sure I did not mess up any formatting. As a precaution, I saved the original global defines xml file on my desktop. What should I do?

EDIT: This happens as soon as I hit next turn. I can leave the game on the turn that I loaded for hours and it works.

Well, obviously the first thing to do is restore the original .xml file and see if that fixes it. If that doesn't do it, perhaps a re-install is in order.

it must be the change you made - i have been running into this with mods. once i disable them i am able to play again.

bad news...somehow I screwed up while keeping a copy of the original, and now I don't have all the numbers - especially the unhappiness per occupied population, which was some random decimal.
Can you copy and paste your Global Defines?
Here's how to get there: Go to Steam folder (under program files x86 or just search in search bar) -> steamapps -> common -> sid meier's civilization 5 -> Assets -> Gameplay -> XML -> Global Defines. Double click to open it in Internet Explorer, then copy and paste the section called "Growth and Happiness" into your post.
I will be forever grateful,
lord
