Yessss! Finally my new ordered BTS is coming today. Befoer, I accidentally ordered Colonization, which is cool, but not what I thought I ordered. So then, I ordered Warlords which is pretty cool. But when I read posts here on the forum, I saw that most people played BTS. How different are strategies compared to Warlords?

The basics are the same, there are just new features:

  • Random Events - Events that pop up randomly (English Pun there.). There are some that are good and some that are bad. They can be turned off via Custom Game.
  • Corporations - Late Game 'Religions', in a nutshell. It requires planning and carefull spreading of corporations to make a profit. There are severall articles on this Forum, about the curse of Corporations. (Literally)
  • An Improved Espoinage System - This thing is amazingly fun to use, and it's simple. But it's only simple if you know what all the funny symbols/numbers mean. And, thankfully, there are several guides on this forum about it. Learn about it, because it's a lovely system.

These are the major things. There are more Civs and Units/Technologies, the usuall.
I might be missing out a few, but these are the ones I remember off the top of my head. Enjoy Sid Mieres great creation! :goodjob:

Random events = a 75% chance your capitol will have a revolt and it will cost you 10g out of your treasury, -1 population and 1 turn of revolt. The random part comes in to determine how many times in 50 turns it happens to you.

There's a few new buildings like the Stable, Levee and Custom House. Stable gives extra XP for mounted units and would go in your unit pumps - the xp stacks with the barracks too so horsies can start out with 2 promos.

I don't think Unique Buildings were in the game before BTS. Each Civ has their own unique building that provides certain bonuses. Some UB's aren't great but some are really Cool.

New national wonders Moai Statues and National Park are very useful.

Lots of new units.

New world wonders like Cristo Redentor and Apostolic Palace. The AP can be used for early cheese Religious Diplo Victories.

Now this is a fairly important change: Seige does not kill anymore or take cities. This change is more realistic. However, it still doesn't change the overall importance of seige. it just means you wont be sending a stack of 100 cats and 1 sword to a city anymore.

Corporations are a pretty huge addition on par with Espionage. Think of corps as like a later version of how you use holy shrines and spread religions. However, the bonuses can be even greater.

Several new techs. Of note is Aesthetics which is important not just for what it provides but as a good early tech to use as trade bait on higher levels. (AI generally does not prioritize Aesthetics)

Colonies - You can turn overseas cities into a colony or vassal state to lower maintenance cost. This adds a random new civ to the game that will be your vassal until the end unless you piss them off. They can break away.

Lot's of new scenario content of various styles including a scenario set in space, if you like playing scenarios at all. I did like the Warlords scenarios a lot and that's the only reason I go back and play it other than the WGOTM. The BTS content is pretty good too - of note are the RFC and Fall From Heaven prequel scenarios, both of which represent 2 of the most popular mods in the CIV universe.

Welcome to the new CIV game...

Is it occasionally or almost never? I seem to have issues keeping up with when a city will become unhappy so i end up having to endure some turns of unhappiness till i find another resource
Espionage is completely changed in BTS. You get access of spies much earlier & you perform those spying actions by spending espionage instead of gold. You can move your slider for espionage points production. New specialist spies & Great Spies are introduced. And lots of changes are brought to Forts now. Check out this guide to take full advantage of forts. FORTS in BtS
And when Mounted units attack a stack they damage siege units if they survive the battle. Check on the Civilopedia for full detail of changes ;)

No. Unique buildings were introduced in Warlords.
