hi from long-time browser of the forums, 1st time poster.

the official UK release is still 4th nov i believe, but copies HAVE arrived at distribution centres here, i got mine this evening from a friend who works in a shall remain unnamed one after a short drive up the M5 to birmingham.

it was pre-ordered and paid for already, ive just managed to get it a week early...sort of confirms whats happening across europe - looks like the delay to the 4th nov is purely arbitrary.

oh, and the tech tree is in english :)

gonna play the tutorial for an hour then off to bed....day off tomorrow so thats sweet.

[pic attached of me going through the settings pages at 1280x800(my notebook maximum res), and using my username 'gib']

uk guys - keep an eye out, the game is HERE...

Lets raid the warehouses :D

Hey what kind of case does the game come in ? is it small enough to fit through letterboxes ?

Hmmm. I can only hope i get my version early, but i doubt it. The release of civ 4 seems to have taken the manufacturers by surprise though. They seem to have been almost pesimistic about its possible success.

duke nukem - yes, it'll go through a letterbox dukenukem...tho i do envy the people that got the limited edition; this manual isn't as quality as that one.

here's a pic from the tutorial, complete with the slightly cheesy 'sid'

oh, and although im on a notebook with an ATI Radeon X300 in it, i didn't have to make any adjustments to anything to get the game running so its not all doom and gloom on that side of things....

You've just made me so happy! :)

I have an X300 in my Dell Inspiron 9300 (same as you?) and I was extremely paranoid that I wouldn't be able to run it.

I can also confirm that cIV is in the country, though alas I don't have it yet. I asked in Game and they said it was out on the 4th Nov but the guy commented that he had seen it in storage yesterday. Hopefully it will slip out before next Friday. I got Conquests by telling the shop that their competitors were already selling it so they might as well give it to me. Am I the only one who feels a bit insulted that the shops have it behind the counter but aren't allowed to sell it. What's the point. Do they just want to wind us loyal UK Civ fans up and drive the less principled among us to piracy?

no worries enkidu...

im running on a toshiba equim, Pentium M 1.73Ghz with 512Mb RAM and Radeon X300 64MB - i think your dell is the same sort of level as that??

i can run the game comfortably in the notebooks max widescreen res (1280x800) - i did knock the graphics details down from high to medium, but only because i was prepared for the worst...it runs sweet, and looks good enough that i haven't even bothered to try going up to high.

i didn't have to change the drivers for the X300 (which does support Hardware T&L fortunately) - i was doubtful beforehand as this chip is a fair way off cutting edge in notebook graphics now, but looks like we got a lucky break with it.

yea pester the games shops mate...enjoy it whenever you get it :)

Mine is only a few months old and has 128MB. I really couldn't cope if the laptop I bought a few months ago couldn't run cIV.

I hear they actually fine the shops for releasing early now, so I think it might only be the lucky few who get it rather than everyone after one shop has let it slip.

It bugs me that the distributor is actually pro-actively preventing us from purchasing the game when it is just sitting in storerooms and behind counters gathering dust. And meanwhile it is available and Germany and Switzerland.

Why?

I dont see why it is being released so late in the U.K (and the rest of the world, come to that), for 2 reasons.

1) The game that is released in the states is now being downloaded illiegally by people who would otherwise buy it (I totally condemn pirating BTW)

2) The day it is supposed to be coming out (Nov. 4th) is also the day that 2 other high profile games, Age Of Empires 3 and Call Of Duty 2 are released, and this will probably really hurt their early sales.

Not to mention Prince of Persia Three (in Europe aparantly)

Cool! BTW Is the UK version the same as US? I mean Can US mods be installed in the Uk version

A sneaky look at the woolworths website has the game releasing on the 28th Oct. I shall blazing a path to the door of my local store in the morning, just in case!

That's just ugly.

Letting us wait because the copies have to be made I can understand... not happy with it, but ok.

But letting us wait, with the copies being stored for release on November 4th, while the US, Germany ect are playing.... WHY?

A telephone call would be more advisable. Save a trip.

I might do the same around a few stores, may trick a temp/newbie into giving me a copy, then bye bye play.com preorder.

It's only installed from a different kind of disc. Why wouldn't the mods work?

Im thinking that too since the language is the same.
