I'm trying to install the new patch, but every time I go to install it, right at the end of the installation I get a message saying something along the lines of not being able to find any Civ IV files. After which, the Civ IV program closes itself and I can no longer re-open Civ IV without first uninstalling the entire game and reinstalling it. I run windows Vista and I double checked all the system requirements for this game and I over-exceed the necessary requirements. I have the basic Game of the Year edition of Civ IV, no expansions, nothing special. I have tried downloading it from inside the game as well as the site's link for it. Both gave me the same results. Any help in getting this patch to install successfully would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance. :)

That was a good idea, but apparently I already have the 1.61 version installed... Any other ideas? =(

welcome to cfc :band:

1) install the game with administrator rights (right click on the installer and choose run as administrator).
2) what is the default install path it uses?
3) open the game (unpatched) and make a screenshot of the about this build screen.
4) then patch to 1.74 - again run the patch as administrator.

I guess this will not work but it is possible that it does - if that is not the case it likely uses a messed up registry key in which case we'd have to figure out whats wrong there...

I have the same problem.

I've tried reinstalling several times without any luck.

Run after install of version 1.00 from CD works
Run after installing 1.61 patch works
Run after installing 1.74 patch gives the following error:

This application has failed to start because D3DX9_32.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I've tried the 1.74 patch both on the 1.0 version and after the 1.61 version. I've updated both by starting the game and using the 'update' function and downloading the patches.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks
