Civ IV Preview on Worthplaying

It says by cultural region I believe so I'm guessing we'll hear Mandarin (Asia), Latin or Greek (Mediterranean), English (British Accent, Europe), one of the First Nations languages (Americas), and Arabic (Middle East).

Those are my guesses based upon languages that exist in those regions and people today still know and can speak with the proper accent. In other words, the easier ones to use :P

I hope they put Southern accents with the Americans. This game needs more Redneck.

i'm hoping that when they said "region" they just meant civ - i dunno, to generalize languages under a "region" wud seem kinda... idunno i think i'd prefer to not have anything at all - but yeah, since the sound clips shudn't take too much space, i think there's a good chance that each civ will have their own language/voices - like u see in past rts games. but i guess we'll hafta wait for more info or for the game to come out.

If ancient egypt gets subtitles, I demand them to be hieroglyphs.
Only if they speak it in English!

If it's spoken in a foreign language, then native subtitles;
If spoken in native language, then foreign subtitles.

I found this line particularly amusing:

There’s a certain Egyptian leader who might get a bit frisky with you when she really likes you; give her something at the height of her friendly favor, and she might not let you leave without angering her!

Sounds like the folks doing the leader animations at Firaxis are having a little bit too much fun. ;)

I think they should get someone from Baltimore to say it. It would make sense. Its close to the capital, its in the middle as far as north-south is concerned, and its where Firaxis is located, so they could just walk out on the street ;)

I think that, if they do the voices by Culture Group, then it would prove a lot easier for modders to create new units-even if it might sound a little....well, lame ;)!

I just noticed from this preview, and the world shot, global view, that rivers seem a lot less abundant. Maybe due to the new ability to serve as a trade route/connecting to capital they are now less common.
Rivers are coming back to what they were in the first civilization, then... :crazyeye:

Americans should have New York accents... :D

American units should sound like Joe Pesci, definitely.

"How am I <Snip> funny?" - etc

:D

Moderator Action: Language removed.

The Americans should have accents from all Parts of the Country, It makes most Logical sense. Here are the most likely choices...

Northern\New England
Southern\Dixieland
California\West Coast
Midwestern US\Great Plains
Appalachian\Scottish
Texan\Western US
Irish American
African American
Native American
Cajun

All of these for The Different Units Would Make For a Truly Unique Modding Opportunity. But anyhoo, Let's get back to topic, I am eager to hear the Aztecs speaking Nahuatl, The original Language of Their Culture.

rn't most news anchors trained in a certain regions to learn a certain dialect of english - standard english is disputed between standard midwestern and californian. def. travelling around the us, there r some differences in spoken english from region to region.

Other countries have accents as well. Not all English people speak alike. Arabic is different in different Arab countries (and no doubt within them as well). French and German are also languages that have regional variations in accent. I would assume that all languages do unless proven otherwise. If you do it for American English, you should do it for all of them.

I think the problem with cultural groups is that people will get mad. Imagine if Germany, France, the Vikings, and England all sounded the same. People wouldn't like that.

I don't like the whole non-English voices idea. All the voices will be equally meaningless to me.
