Civ IV to ship before Halloween!?!

Haha, clever. Nice and well done.
But they -were- polishing the game since August anyway, right? They left a nice buffer zone.

Companys usually move up release dates to get out in front of Thanksgiving or Xmas. This release date was already in front of those days. I beleive the game must be ready. They are well aware of the problems the company had with early releases in the past. I'm quite sure they don't and wont have a repeat of that. JUST BE HAPPY AND ACCEPT THE GREAT NEWS !!!

They let me DOWN with the LACK OF PATCHES to fix the submarines and other bugs STILL in conquests... I do not trust Firaxis anymore. MY release date will still be mid sep- so I can listen to all the gripes/raves first to get a sense of what sort of mess this release is in...

Firaxis is not on my list of trusted companies anymore...

Anyone notice the Bible-like Civ4 box? A none too subtle allusion to the “religion” element of the new game I suppose. Really, Firaxis: just for that, I’m not going to pre-order…

How do you know why they chose the powerful black box image? You assume that it is a religious reference and in the true spirit of religion you will deny yourself the game.

remember: Its better to regret something you have done than to regret something you havn't done!!!

Release for you is in mid-September?

Can you hook the rest of us up?

Don't anyone understand sarcasm anymore?
Deny nothing.. I said I wasn't going to pre-order.

Some (note qualifying word right here at the front) of the people that complain about the perception of extra bugs in the early release date are the same ones that complain about "bugs" that are really their own personal preferences about how the game works. They have complained for the last year or more, they'll complain when it's released, and next year they will still be complaining. Since "feature that I want that isn't in the game or doesn't work my way" is not a "bug" by definition, such people are inherently incapable of being satisfied by Civ4. Everything else, as they say, is commentary. :D

(Note that complaints about most real bugs don't take very long, and for some reason people don't feel the need to broach them every day. For example, the "sub bug" in all Civ3 versions. Once explained, no one says that it isn't a bug. You merely get a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth about why it wasn't fixed and/or speculation about why it might have been difficult to fix.)

It doesn't matter to me. When Civ4 is released, it will have bugs--probably some substantial ones, viewed with 20/20 hindsight. All games have bugs. I'll get it for Christmas or soon after. It will have approximately the same number of bugs then whether released for Halloween or Thanksgiving. This doesn't make me a "fan boy". It indicates that I have some perspective.

If I had time to play it before Christmas, I'd probably get it early despite the bugs. Why? Because very few games entertain me. That a buggy (but playable) Civ4 is more entertaining than most anything else available is just life. I have different preferences than some people. It's a game; not your food money for November.

PS. Rhetorical question: Why are those that complain constantly about Firaxis, Civ, Take2, etc. the ones most thin skinned about people complaining about their complaining?

I agree. If it has bugs? Fine, I'll accept it if the game is still playable. No amount of beta testing and attempted pre-release fine-tuning compares at all to such a massive fan base playing the game and nitpicking it. After a certain point, the bugs are reduced to such a point beta testing is less and less likely to find the remaining bugs and it serves no purpose just to delay it because it isn't (mathematicly) perfect. It will never be perfect! Although with umpteen million times as many people running it through the proccesses, they will find the remaining bugs and they shall be squelched!

By the end of the year it will be the same Civ IV it would've been had it been delayed two weeks as two weeks of 2+ million people testing it will mean more of a chance to imrpove it by the end of the year. There's a point where sooner is buggier and later is illrelevant. I think they are figuring that (Oct. 31st) is (or is near) that date. Again, by the end of year it will matter little (if at all) that they did or did not wait those two weeks.

So I say! YIPEE!!!!! :D :thanx: :hatsoff: I will preorder it. I will also assure you that the first civilization I encounter in the game shall experience the might of Rome! :) Rarely do I look forward to the release of *anything*, but I am looking forward to this!

I'l playing a game of each Civilization (I through III) to celebrate/countdown! :)

There's hope for Germany (and Europe) I would say:

According to PCGames the German version will be released in Oct.'2005 as well... I hope they are right!! (Personally I'll start to believe it if I can find it on take2's or Firaxis' website :)

For God's sake, who are the "participating retailers?" Anyone? Anyone at all? Bueller? Bueller?...

Fry? Fry?

Seriously, I can't get the Take2 page to load, and the press release was worthless. I must know. I will burst with anticipation.

are u sure it is a rush job

we have been seein game footage for months maybe they have been play testin it this whole time and are satisfied with the product

where do you live?? it's not like those companies wait until they think it's ready, the gaming industry runs on $$$. so, the longer you wait, the later you earn it (and perhaps less, if the game start getting "old" or somebody else publishes something similar, grabbing away a big piece of the cake).

I read over at Apolyton that it will be Chips and Bits and EBGames.
