I have Civ IV with the latest patch running fine on my ibook G4 1.2ghz. I also installed the game on my 1.66ghz dual core intel mac mini, which I assumed would run the game because it ran the demo. However, it crashes on launch. The game begins to boot and I see it loading the xml and python and then the screen goes blue and the application crashes.

edit: The mini is also running OS X 10.4.8, the patch is rev B, and I've tried everything in the aspyr knowledgebase article (http://support.aspyr.com/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&root=153&id=337) except for downgrading the operating system to 10.4.7.

Is there a modification I can make to the game files or to my mini's system so that it will run?

Thanks.

Welcome :wavey:

There are several reports around here that the latest patch crashes on MacBooks (not Pros). Since the main difference between the MacBook and the other Macs that *do* run the latest patch is that it uses the Intel integrated graphics chip set, the theory is that the latest patches have stopped working on that hardware, which has always been below the minimum spec. The Intel-based Mac Mini uses the same graphics hardware, so it appears that the theory may hold water.

Players with MacBooks have had to downgrade Civ4 to RevA to get it to run, so I would suggest you try the same.

Thanks! I followed the uninstall directions on the disk's READ ME file, reinstalled the program, found it to already be REV A, and went ahead and launched it. The game booted perfectly and it absolutely flies (compared to my poor iBook's slow performance).

I appreciate the Rev A patch tip.
